I apologize, I meant outside of the Cooper brand. The Nittos are way heavier, the Falkens are way heavier. Etc. I think the duratrac and geolandar were the only ones that were close.

 

You’re on the same note that I have been on. I’m trying to keep the tires on the lighter side especially coming up from a P rating. The Nitto Terra are on the lighter side compared to the ridge grappler‘s and EXO’s. Just not as aggressive

 

I just got the XLT's in 275/70-18, a guy I work with just bought the ATP's. Both are nice tires. I would have gone with the ATP (as I like it's tread pattern better) if the sidewall was similar to the XLT. ATP just doesn't have an aggressive sidewall. Either is a good choice and they are on the lighter side, weight was a factor in my decision to go with Cooper.

 

That’s the exact dilemma I’m in. I like the sidewall of the XLT’s but like the tread pattern of the ATPs much better. They need to combine them for me LOL

 

I went back and forth on which one, the thing that swung me was Discount had a $100 off flash sale and the XLT's also had a $70 rebate so they were basically the same price as the ATP. If not for the sale I would probably be on ATP's right now.
One other note, my XLT's have the three mountain peak snow rating, My friends ATP's don't have the three mountain peak on them. His are a different size though.

 

Interesting about the three mountain peak. On discount tires website it shows them with it for the size I like.

 

I have had these for over a year now and no complaints they are really good tires imo they ride a lot better than my previous toyos and a lot lighter
when I got them I shopped around and TireBuyer.com had the best prices I could find and next day shipping free

 

I could be wrong but if your talking about that blue circle with the white mountain on their site I think it just means they are all terrain. Probably be worth a call to Cooper. Here in Northern California I have never had an issue, chain control just asks for 4wd and makes sure you have capable tires.

Edit: ATP price right now is ridiculous with a $100 rebate. That would be hard to pass up

 

I once had Toyos on my '07 Tundra and could never get them right, always had a shimmy. Got to the point where I finally pretty much got rid of it and never rotated those tires again. No Toyos for me.

Does Cal Trans look for the 3 mountain peak stamp at chain control in the So Cal mountains?

 

I’ve never had that issue going up to the mountains. They usually just wave me through without checking anything.

 

I have heard they do but I’ve actually never had them check. When they are stopping everyone to put chains on they’ve always just waved me through. I’m sure if it’s bad enough they could require me to have chains as well. Speaking of that when I upgrade tire size my chains will no longer fit LOL

I was looking on America’s tire and neither tire specifies in the description whether it’s three peak mountain rated. Unless I missed it. I did click on the blue with white mountain and it just says all terrain. So you are correct. Another fun fact in the description of the ATPs it mentions great for ice snow and wet or dry conditions. On the XLT’s it doesn’t mention that. I bet they would both perform well. Also they are offering $100 mail in rebate on the ATPs as well.

 

Great price on ATP's right now. Cooper may not put that rating on the ATP's to avoid competing with the XLT's. They are a less expensive tire and maybe that is part of it.

 

Odd how the same tire in different sizes may or may not be severe weather rated.

 

Supposedly it’s a process to get each size approved. I’d imagine if one or a couple of sizes are approved it’s just a matter of time before the rest of them get it.

 

Got mine a couple days ago. Such a badass all terrain and can’t beat the price.

 

Trying to decide on these tires between two sizes. Either 285 75 18 or 295 70 18. Will be putting them on a Fuel rim with +20 offset and I have 6112s at 1.9" with 2 spacers driver side and 1 on passenger. Can anyone offer advice either way. I'm concerned about the added height of the 285 75

Edit: I should mention the 285s are available now, but the 295s are on back order 4-6 weeks

 

295s I wish I would of went. A little wider to honestly they don’t seem as wide as my nittos did same size

 

For this size did you just do the standard front aero flap removal and push in the fender liner?

 

Front mud flaps are gone and I trimmed the inner liner a bit I’m running 0 offset to

 

Went from stock TRD Pro to 275/70/18 with 1.25 spacers, TRD Pro shims and +2 shackles

Looks good! Why did you do spacers? You should clear those tires without issue.

 

That’s a good question. Isn’t Pro already level out in front 2” with the rear? Also with 275/70/18 is easily clear with no modifications.

 

Because he added shims on top of the coilovers. A 1/4” inch shim will give you about a 1/2” of lift in the front. +2 shackles will give you about 1” - 1-1/4” lift in the rear.My guess is he put two shims on each side in the front and shackles in the back giving him an overall 1 inch lift over the pro suspension. So that would be about 3 inches total lift in the front and an inch in the back over a standard tundra suspension.
The 1.25 spacers or just for the wheels. More for a better stance and look.

 

Just for stance. I had the spacers on with the stock tires so I just kept them on with the new ones.

Correct on the spacers, just for looks. They actually cause a slight rub at full lock in reverse but its not too bad. Coachbuilder has a TRD Pro shim kit that gives a 1 inch lift with 1 shim on each side and bump stop extensions. I went with that set up.
