    .
    Everyone new to the forum.
    .
Have searched high, and low for information on this, and haven’t quite found it.
    .
My 05 tundra started leaking oil from the cam bearing cap, was time to do a timing belt, anyways so I figured I’d reseal this, and do the valve covers/plug seals at the same time.
    .
However after removing the bearing cap I found the previous owner had put silicone in all the groves. From what I understand the groves don’t get RTV , and only the sides do. Wanted to see if someone with more experience can help me out. Attached are pics of the service documents, and a pic of my bearing cap.

Decided to not put sealant in the groves as all the service documents, and My book say not too.
    .
The previous owner took it to have the timing belt done, and it seems like someone decided to try to do the cam seals, but stopped after finding out what all it takes to do the cam seals.
    .
There was a leak the seams to be coming from the cover. Not necessarily from the cam seal. I’ll have to recheck when I get it all back together.

It could be from the VC itself. It needs a dab of rtv in the corners where it goes up for the cams.

Anyway you could post a pic. I’ve always had Honda’s used it on the sharp corners over cams, and my 92 yota was pretty much the same.

You’re awesome! I hit those spots, and redid the rear plugs . Those were the spots I figured you were talking about. Thanks for confirmation!.
    .
She’s back together, and runs great. Flushing my cooling system as the previous owner only used water.....
    .
Also going to be looking for what sounds to be an exhaust manifold leak.

those grooves in the part are there to have the sealant smush into. when you apply the sealant where the FSM shows once you tighten down the part it gets into the grooves and thats what creates your seal.
