    Hey All,
I'm looking to purchase an Auburn LSD for my '16 Crewmax and see that on summit racing's website there is a Auburn LSD (part number AUB-5420134) and an Auburn Pro LSD ( part number AUB-5420134PRO).
Anyone know what the difference is? Does the Pro come with the friction additive?

Also where have you guys that have done one of these conversions got your new bearings from?

    Thanks,
    Andy

Auburn limited slip additive included is included with the Pro, and it's 5.7L specific.

At least that's what I read when comparing the two.

The Pro is a more aggressive setup. The difference is the Spring preload.

Agressive in respect to what? Does it engage with more wheel spin? Am I understanding this?

It will engage more aggressively and quicker than the standard. Making sharp turns, kicking in sooner on rainy streets etc.

    PRO

*A robust and unique cone clutch mechanism that outlasts and outperforms plate-type clutch designs.
*High strength bevel gearing that provides greater resistance to shock loading as compared to helical gear limited-slip designs.
*The mechanical advantage of a cone clutch versus a plate-type clutch provides quicker torque transfer under any driving condition.
*Torque sensing and biasing at any speed.

    Found this.
    Auburn Limited Slip Differential
The Auburn Gear H/P Series Limited Slip is a smooth, street-friendly, limited slip differential assembly that uses a preloaded, tapered cone-type clutch system to provide unbeatable on- and off-road performance. The Auburn comes with a no-questions-asked, four-year replacement warranty through Auburn Gear.

Auburn Pro Series Limited Slip Differential
The Auburn Gear Pro Series Limited Slip is a very aggressive, yet still street-friendly limited slip. The Pro Series uses the same preloaded cone clutch system, but with a much higher preload rating than Auburn Gear's standard LSD. This unit still comes with Auburn Gear's four-year replacement warranty

Auburn should publish a comparison of the two, and make the decision easier for the potential buyer.

But again, what does more spring preload do for me? My driving is 90% on road, but I spend 10 days in Montana each fall on somewhat unmaintained roads.

Motive Gear has the Grip Pro available for our trucks now. No clutches. That's what I plan on running. Just giving another option.

Yup seems like its gonna be delayed from what you guys have been finding out. Im gonna end up with air locker or the eaton e locker. Just havent decided which. For what the pro grip is gonna cost might as well spend the extra and get a selectable locker

So how often do you have to pull the Auburn and rebuild it?

Has anyone reported a failure with the PRO, or were the failures restricted to the version before the PRO?

I haven't seen any mention about Auburn Pro/non Pro issues or failures here in over 5 years. Certainly wish Eaton offered the reliable Detroit locker.

Wish some of those who have installed the Auburn would chime in on longevity and reliability. Still think for my use a LSD rear and e-locker front would be the perfect set up.

I've only had my Auburn Pro series LSD, with 4.88s, and running the Harrop TVS2650 for a year. But, so far, it's been flawless. I'm hard on it, too.

If for whatever reason it fails, definitely would want to look into any non-clutch LSD.

I'm just careful to use proper gear oil & additive.

Higher spring preload, same clutch pack, but with more wear? Something to think about.

A limited slip must slip during cornering, that is the physics and why you put in additive. More spring pressure will equate to more wear when it slips. That is just the engineering of wear/pressure. The pro unit clearly is meant to act more like a true spool but at what cost, and is that cost the right answer for a street driven truck. I don't know the answer to that which is I wrote my comment as a question. Auburn is choosing 2 spring pressures for their products, that causes me to wonder how they chose that pressure in the first place and the trade offs.

One thing for sure, the pro unit will cause you to fish-tail earlier on slick roads than the non-pro unit. Something to keep in mind.
