We're all getting hit. Sometimes we get hit by our own number.
I use the do not disturb (calls on my address book get through).
Seems like the nuclear option as the seldom received calls I WANT to get go to VM.
    What's your strategy?

I use Hiya (the free version). I set it to block all numbers from my prefix because that's where most spoofed calls come from. If your prefix is 555-123-xxxx, then block all calls from 555-123. You then whitelist numbers you want to get thru. It's not perfect but it has helped a lot. I still get calls from Rachel about funding for my business.

That's one way of doing it. Like a reverse DND. I'd be white listing for awhile..

There's a setting to allow calls from contacts. That helps quite a bit.

Robokiller... So your chasing spoof calls all day? The telemarketers are simply duplicating local calls to trick you and the software. It's able to distinguish? Wouldn't you be blocking calls forever?

Not sure if it's available on all Android phones but the Google phone app has a call screen feature on Pixel. Phone rings, you hit screen call, and if it's a spam call they usually hang up in a couple seconds. Then report it as spam and no more calls from that number.

I was getting all those calls, pissing me off, saw a segment on the Today Show about the issue and they said Robokiller was the new thing, I downloaded it, no more phone calls, it picks up n hangs up on those annoying calls

my Pixel does a good job of filtering out spam calls. It has a nice call screener feature that reads a script and then you can read what they say back (normally they just hang up).

Nowadays it’s probably the little outlet in the wall where Internet comes from.

When I got my cable Internet package years ago it came with home phone. That was part of the bundle. I had to have it to get the good rate. The very first day it was hooked up I immediately got Robo calls. How could a brand new number already been given out! I felt they sold my information immediately. I unplugged the phone and never plugged it back in. I now have no home phone.

The only people I know with an answering machine are my grandparents who are in their 80's. Come to think of it, they're the only people I know who still have a landline...

I have the exact same setup. Keep a landline for emergencies.
As far as spam killers go, I just don't answer a number I don't recognize. Sometimes, if it's handy, I'll answer with one of those hand held air horns. Just for fun. I answer to make sure it's a spam call, then I give them a blast. They usually don't call back.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I also still have one, and a landline. I don’t even know why. The wife says because it’s pretty much free with out internet.

Of course, I haven’t even looked at the phone when it rings in years, and the answering machine probably has a hundred voicemails I haven’t even listened to.
I don’t even answer my cell phone very often. First thing I do when I get a new cell phone is turn the ringer off. I have no idea what my ringtone even sounds like. I hate talking on the phone. One of my number one rules is “if it can be communicated via text or email, don’t call me.”

Robokiller is great. It blocks most spam calls, and even has an automated prank it plays on the caller on occasion.

If any of you have ATT, they have a free iOS app that filters spam calls pretty well. I had a fake Social Security Office call once and just told them I work for the Social Security Office, they never called again.

    The twist is this..

The numbers you recognize can and have been spoof calls.

Paying a monthly fee to have your phone scrutinize each crank caller while you pay to have phone service kinda left me scratching my head.

AT&T and everyone else are gesturing but on the flip side, they have a premium service that works better and isn't inandated with ads. This is a profit move.

So outside of paying for a service, we appear to still be at our base position. Do not disturb. Lol

We do! And it calls out the number as it rings. We’re using ooma for our home phone line, Panasonic portables throughout the house, that’s the number I give out when required. We simply don’t answer if we don’t recognize the number.

I rarely give out my cell and its caller ID is blocked, not very much spam to it at all for years.
