I bought some new speakers and the JL Audio CS11TG-TW3 sub shown below a few years ago to put in my 2016 CM and all of it is still sitting in boxes. I never finished the project. I am gathering up the rest of the items I need (just bought a JL Audio XD700/5V2 amplifier today online) to get ready to install all of it.

Do any of you have the JL Audio CS11TG-TW3 installed BEHIND THE REAR SEAT in a 3rd generation CM? If so, please let me know about the fit and sound. Back when I bought it I am pretty sure some people said it fit, but I cannot find any posts confirming that now.

Here is a link to it: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_136110TGW3/JL-Audio-CS110TG-TW3.html?tp=112

Not trying to be an ass but, if you already have it, can't you simply test fit it yourself?

I my 10" sub is in a box thats 2" wider than that at the base. Fits just fine behind my back seat right next to the tire changing tools. I don't know if your 16 CM has more or less room behind the seats than my 2012 does.

If it were that simple I would test fit it, but it requires taking the back seat out. Why do all that work just to find it does not fit? If someone has it then it would be much easier to just hear that it fits. I bought all of this a long time ago (back in 2016) and so I have forgotten what I was even thinking back then, if that makes sense.

I am glad to hear your box fits. How wide is it at the top?

    No, I don't think it will. I just ended up making one. 20160909_190600.jpg 20160909_190617.jpg 20160909_190652.jpg 20160917_154239.jpg 20160917_132857.jpg

I have a 2016 JL T3, sure looks like yours. It fits...but...you can’t fully recline the rear seat in the furthest back position, you have to be one click “up” to fully recline... As far as sound, mine is awesome, got a sub for it under the driver seat and it’s all I need. If I was 20 again I’d want a second one back there but not these days with my 1 & 3 year old...I do think the bass gets muffled in tundras, especially if you have leather to pound it thru...my old grand cherokee with a sub in the cargo space sounded better, but had no impedance...size up appropriately..

The rear seats in 2014 + CrewMax does not recline or slide, greatly reducing the available room behind the seat for a box compared to the 07-13 trucks.

Then I would have to say there’s no way it’d fit...my speaker grille is mashed from trying to fully recline in that back most position, so if what you say is true...definitely not...

Got it. Like I said, I wasn't trying to be an ass.
I didn't know that it wasn't easy to test fit with the 14+ crew max rear seats.

I measured mine. It's actually 6 at the bottom and 3 at the top.

Yeah my 10 back there is perfect. I can't have it back all the way and reclined too but I have 2 car seats in the back (see the picture). The split 40 seat still has plenty of room for a larger passenger. Plus, if I have someone in the back complaining of room, they can just GTHO and walk. LOL
Just enough bass for some rock or country and plenty left when I put some hip hop or rap on.

AZ Blue I just went out and measured my 16 and I am getting 7" at the bottom and 5" at the 12" high mark on the driver's side. Plus, I noticed that the big thick rubber mat and insulation that is hanging on the backside of the cab is robbing a lot of room. How big is the box that you built? It looks bigger than the JL enclosure I posted above. From my measurements I think the JL enclosure will fit, but I don't know how far the seat back bulges back (springs) when someone is sitting in the seat. I would not want someone to feel the grill sitting in the seat.

Harvey I don't think you can compare a 2nd Gen to a 3rd Gen as far as back seats or the room behind the backseats. The seats are absolutely nothing alike and they may not even be mounted in the same place on the floor of the cab (don't assume they are) and thus the room behind them are completely different. It is like comparing a Ford to a Toyota.

The JL Enclosure above has the following measurements: 19-1/8"L x 12-5/8"H x 6-1/2" bottom (7-1/4" with grille) x 4-3/8" top. I guess I am going to have to pull the seat out and try it. One thing I forgot to mention is that the seat is somewhat concave on the back (the measurement to the outside edge is not accurate).

I don't remember the dimensions exactly, but I'm pretty sure it was quite a bit less than the 6.5" at the base the JL box is. The box I made probably looks bigger because to get the volume needed I had to make it longer to make up for the lack of available width and height. Also you can see the square relief I had to add to make room for a seat bracket.

To give you an idea, the mounting depth of the shallow mount Alpine 10" sub I used is only 4 3/16" and I had to index the wood on the inside back of the box with a belt sander to fit it (I'll see if I can find a pic).

Thanks for all the replies. I will try it and see. It may be a few weeks but I will report back.

Meanwhile, if anyone actually knows the answer from actually trying one please post.

Apologies to everyone on here. I am very sorry for wasting all of your time. I must be getting old (I am actually in my mid 50's).

As I stated in my original post, I purchased the JL Audio sub box early in 2016 after doing a lot of research but I never installed it or all the other speakers that I purchased. All of the stereo parts sat in my closet for years. It turns out that I was wrong on which JL Audio boxed I purchased. I looked in my closet last night for the first time since then and found that I purchased the JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3, which is an 8" box, and plenty of people have put those behind the back seat of 3rd Gen CM. I think when I did all of this research back in 2016 I was really focused on the 10" version (I wanted it to fit) and that is what I had in my head as buying and owning, but when it came to buy one in 2016 I bought the one that I knew would fit, the 8" version, because I must have had very serious doubts about the 10" fitting. I had no idea until I looked last night. In short, the 8" is what is going in my truck and I know it fits (lots of posts on Tundratalk with pictures of installs).
