What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Steering wheel controls are the only modern feature I wish my truck had. Really curious to see how that will work.

 

On my 05 it was as simple as running 3 wires

 

I tried to program the garage door opener. I get the signal received and paired icon, but when I test it nothing happens. Dunno if the truck is too old to send the right signal or something. Oh well. The upside is I annoyed the hell out of The Woman with the garage door going up and down for 15 minutes.

 

New here...

Between yesterday and today I put in a new Koyo wheel bearing, and while the knuckle was off threw in a new OEM UBJ and LBJ. Just need to do the ball joints on the driver's side now.

How new is your door opener? I had to install a repeater to get my homelink in the other cars to work. New door openers use some different kinda signal than the older ones

 

I wasn't very clear. I believe it will work. I'm curious HOW it works. Curious how it mounts to the steering wheel.

I'm assuming it was installed when the house was built, so no older than 6 years. What repeater did you get?

Progress. Everything is wired and ready to go for the most part. Time for bed. Gotta be at work at 10pm.

Maybe tomorrow I'll tackle the radio, back up cam and mic installation. Or at least install my new headlights and align em..maybe.

No, he's installing an aftermarket radio. The adapter allows the steering wheel controls to control the aftermarket radio.

I'm prepping my 03 access cab for sale soon too, have an 06 double cab waiting on a few repairs to become my daily.

I love the a/c size, but the half doors suck, especially in a parking lot trying to get kids in/out. Looking forward to my 06, with that sweet roll down rear window too!

 

anyone remember how I can get my rear roll down window to NOT stop 2/3 of the way when rolling it up? Isn't there some plug I unplug?

 

Is that even a thing? I must know this secret. That 2/3 stop is friggen stupid.

 

Remove the rear panel and there’s a plug on the passenger side half way down the window slides. Disconnect plug.

 

Learn something new on here everyday, always hated that feature.

 

Replaced the T5 bulb in the ignition switch with a red LED one to change it up. Went to change the bulb in the lower driver’s side kick panel with a white one however the plastic pieces inside come in more and doesn’t allow the bulb to plug right in. I’ll have to disconnect the battery and try to push the plastic back somehow when I have more time.

Also tried to switch the bulbs within the instrument cluster. Removed the cluster to discover that they are not as easy as the center (below the stereo) bulbs to access and I’m way over my head on that one. Stopped there and re-assembled until I do more research. I was hoping to put in red bulbs for P and R, and the rest white.

05 clusters do not have bulbs. theyre soldered on white chips on the circuit board and the green is a tint on the gauge face

I have my '03 Access cab listed locally for the exact reasons. I thought the 1/2 doors would be exactly what I need day to day, but I find I actually HATE them. Once it goes it will be replaced with a 4 door w/ magic window.

Been driving with my rear center 1/3 window slid open - so nice. Hope the whole rear window open will be as nice.
Anyone want to barter?

i kept debating adding one to the reg cab... but the price scared me away.

 

I cleaned the rust off my calipers with some WD40 rust remover and wire brushes, washed and dried preparatory to painting. Put two coats primer, followed by two coats of blue base and two coats of clear - all high temp paint. Things were going good, until it was time to remount the wheels. I struggled for hours trying to lift those suckers back up onto the studs and I was unable. What a blow to my ego! Finally I used my brains over the lack of brawn and decided to use a lever and fulcrum - I used a flat tip shovel with fiberglass handle to lift the wheel into place, levering it up with relative ease. I guess that means I need to carry a shovel in case of a flat tire...? Getting old sucks.

 

Thank you! I’m glad I quit while I was behind. Now that you say that, I remember someone saying they wet sanded theirs.

 

They would be so much more functional if they opened without having to open the front door. I love my DC...it's the perfect sized truck for my family of four...but if it was just me and the wife, I'd have an AC. I think the 2000-2006 AC Tundras are the best sized trucks ever.
