Cold air intake

I want to put a cold air intake on. But not sure if I should go with the K&N aluminum tube, or plastic. What do you people think?

 

Keep your money, they don’t add enough gains to justify the cost, they only add sound. If you want true gains get a full race exhaust from dirty deeds or save for a supercharger.

 

A lot of people on here will tell you if you already have a CAI, which is your stock one, but I have the S&B, all companies say fuel gain n horsepower, all I hear is more engine noise, I have Flowmaster Super 44 dual in out, with CAI sounds great

 

I got the AFE super stock intake. I love the added noise from it. Might be slight top end gains but could be excitement placebo. But it does retain stock air box so I can’t imagine it hurt the low end torq that many talk about loosing from CAI or change much at all. The noise and looks is what I love the most. It matches the engine cover perfectly.

 

Looks nice. I read somewhere that plastic engine cover is only for decoration ... others say it directs the air from the fan under the cover to cool off stuff ... Not sure what's the real story. Do you know?

 

Nice catch can. That's the one I want to go along with a supercharger hopefully in spring time.

 

Im not sure if it does anything. I know that its no longer used with a S/C so I imagine its just for ascetics, but dont quote me on that.

how is it holding up? Thinking about doing the super stock.

 

Good so far. It does whistle some which I think is my fault. I tried to use my own couplers because I didn’t like the red ones. And at the TB, they supply a 2.25” or 2.5” hump coupler and I put a 3” hump coupler because black. Well I think the whistle is from that so I’m going to switch back to the shorter aFe coupler. I just haven’t been home to fix it yet. Other than that, like most of the other reviews I read, the vacuum line they supplied is too short, as was mine, so I ran to the parts store for a longer one.

So besides all that, I am really happy with it. Definitely glad I got it. Sounds great and looks great. And retains the factory box which people say is the best. I just shouldn’t have tried to modify the modifications I guess.

 

How much is the TRD CAI parts or installed? I may like the sound and get one if not too pricey. Lose or gain a couple of hp, who cares!

 

Install is easy to do yourself and there are plenty of videos on how to do it. As far as price you’d have to look it up. Like 3-400 I think. Go to romans ultimate parts list page I’m sure the price is there.

 

Sound is pretty cool, I dig that. Price not so much.....

 

As far as my intake, I only have the TRD lid and air flow accelerator. The rest is AFE super stock. I don’t remember what I paid for the trd stuff and aFe was about 180 or so. Don’t really remember on that either

 

Curious where the extra sound come from? It's air going on ... How can it make more noticeable sound considering the engine and exhaust noise, etc.

 

Here is mine. I did the TRD air flow accelerator, TRD panel filter, TRD upper airbox, and the rest is stock!

 

How does changing that out affect the factory warranty?

 

It sounds like a little whoosh of air, not exactly sure how else to describe it...

 

It does not change a thing..

 

The complete cold air kits remove the bends and resonator that are on the stock air tube from airbox to throttle body.

I’m also thinking of purchasing a K&N Air Intake (63 Series) for my new to me 2011 Toyota Tundra 5.7L.

I was seeing chatter that it’s not a true Cold Air Intake because it doesn’t suck in air through the wheel well like the stock or TRD CAI.

The added HP gain is nice, but the advantages I’m looking for are more focused on MPG, Reusable Filter/Savings, and the sound of course!

Is this true? Does it even matter?


*why’d you buy a truck if your worried about MPG? I know, I know. But every mile counts haha

 

Everything that I have read about adding a CAI indicates that there is no power / mpg benefit unless you also free up the exhaust.

 

I’ve seen some forums where people reported a .5 or 1+ MPG. A buddy recommended a performance chip with the CAI and Some tuning, but that’s out of my wheelhouse. I always get worried when messing with the Stock computer system (I’d have a pro do it), but still worries me.

I realize I might not see any gains in MPG which is okay.

Do you know if they did anything else to the car besides the CAI? Like tuning, etc.
It has a very good torque & HP gain right about 3250 RPM! If it truly does that, I would buy one!

 

From what I know its just from the intake with OE exhaust. We've installed a few of these here at Toyteclifts for the Tundras and they love it.

 

I call bs on that, only a turbo or SC could make that.

 

An SC would make double that...
