I was at selection (medical drop 8 days later, broke my calcaneus, the heel bone). We thought the the Cadre was messing with us, you know hurry up and wait. We were in formation waiting for our ride out to the land nav site. 4 or 5 hours later the Cadre took us into a class room and briefed us then we watched the news feeds for a few hours. It is still kind of surreal..

    Happy hump day Tundra Family!
Haven't had much time to check in or post lately because I've been so damn busy. I'll try to better manage my time!
The wife visited her surgeon yesterday for her one year checkup on her shoulder replacement. When he had her put her arm up as far as she could and then reach behind her back, his jaw dropped and then he got a huge smile because she has full range of movement. He said that much movement is extremely rare after replacement. She's worked so hard on it. She knows how proud I am of her for what she's accomplished. I guess I'll keep her.
All that joy is tempered with the news that my 1-1/2 year old grand-niece had to be medevaced from a hospital in Bethlehem to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) because she's got some sort of bowel obstruction. They tried all sorts of non-surgical treatments yesterday but none worked. She'll have surgery this morning. She's got Down Syndrome and needed some sort of stomach surgery right after birth, which makes things more complicated. Poor kid. At least we can take comfort knowing that CHOP is a world renowned children's hospital.

Good morning Jim. I'm sorry for the loss you felt 18 years ago and the loses since that day because of that day. I still can remember that day like it was happening right now. I can tell you every thing I did. I still remember my feelings....

The anger, the helplessness, the sadness, the hurt....

I remember seeing on the news the Pentagon being hit and freaking out and my anxiety going through the roof. I couldn't get ahold of my mom to find out if she knew if our cousin was ok. The crappiest feeling ever.

Work was slow that day and those who came in only wanted to drink and watch the news. We pushed the tables together and everyone, waitresses, bartenders, managers, customers.... Everyone.... Sat together, comforted each other. I was constantly trying to either call my mom or my command to find out WTF was going on with family or when I was being activated. I wanted to go help in NYC so bad, but couldn't because I was put on standby for activation. (Only took 4 hours of constant calling to find out). When I did I was still at work and I looked at my manager and said, "don't expect me to be here much longer. I'm going to be activated." And everyone at the table freaked out, broke down or both, saying I couldn't leave and that there has to be someone else to go. I told them that protecting those I love and care for and to protect my country was the main reason I joined the military....I have to answer the call. I left 2 days later and have never seen any of them again.

I still get emotional to this day thinking about it. I teach my daughter's about it and can't stop the flood of emotions that over come me. My girls know how important it is to remember today.

Good morning, everyone. I just returned from our annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony here at work. Crowd is smaller and smaller every year. I guess that happens, but damn - makes me sad.

    Never forget.
