2003 overdrive switch

Can anyone shed some light on transmission overdrive not working on 2003 Tundra SR5? You can press switch on transmission selector lever, but get no change in engine RPM.

 

your switch is probably shorted out in the stalk. I had this happen on my dad's truck. pull the stalk apart and see if you see frayed wires.

 

When you say "stalk" I assume you're talking about the steering column.

 

meaning the transmission gear selecter. there are two thin wires that run down it from the O/D button.

Does anyone know what rpm my engine should be turning at 65 mph with the overdrive on? It is currently at 2000. It is the 4.7 V8.

 

2004 here and little above 2000 is where mine runs at 65MPH w/OD in normal/not off

 

that's right where mine sits with O/D enabled/not off. with O/D off, it'll be around 2700 or so.

This happened to my 2005...no frayed wires, but the protective covering on the wire running out of the stalk had worn away and the exposed wire was touching other metal and shorting out. It was as simple as covering it up with some electrical tape. Pro tip: After you cover it with electrical tape, wrap it once with some tape that sticks better than electrical tape. Hot summers down here in GA keep that cabin HOT while parked in the sun and electrical tape adhesive doesn't like alot of hear (kinda ironic) and it will come apart after awhile and the tape will unravel...guess how I know.
