Tundra headlight upgrade options

Hey all, new member, but have been lerking in this forum for a while.

Finally getting around to upgrading the headlights on my 2011 CM trd 4x4 and my father's 2013 DC TRD 4x4 and would like to know what some options you all have used.

Have read I can change the headlight bucket to the newer style, don't really care about the new style, just want a brighter headlight for functionality.
Have also read I can change the bulb to a HID from Halogen or even LED, but not sure what the best choice is.

Looking for a brighter headlight for rural areas. Really don't want to spend a fortune, but willing to buy the right product.
Not upgrading for a new look..

I've got a pair of LED headlights that should be here shortly, but they have a really good video on the site explaining about the different types of LED bulbs. The newer ones are designed to more closely mimic the stock halogens. I obviously haven't swapped mine out yet, but I did put an LED bulb on my CBR motorcycle, and the difference between that and the stock halogen, from a beam perspective, is imperceptible. I've done HIDs on other vehicles and the results were less than satisfactory. The current crop of LEDs is getting to be pretty darn good though.

 

This is a bad thing. One of the reasons not to put run of the mill, or really any LED bulbs into OEM halogen buckets. You're blinding oncoming traffic which is dangerous.
And running higher wattage bulbs is even worse, more blinding and stressing your OEM wiring harness.

 

I'm with @Pudge on this one. If you are running the Headlight Revolution 80 watt low beams that you mentioned and people are flashing you, thats a problem. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 covers all lighting in the US. The bulbs that you are using exceed the legal limits.

 

People aren't flashing you to let you know how cool your bright lights are, they're telling you that you're blinding them. Way to look out for others bro.

 

Some people just don't get it. Probably runs a 50" light bar whenever he's on the road too. Ya know cuz it's so cool his lights are so bright that people flash him.....wait its not cuz his lights are cool its because they can't freaking see.

 

As much as I like my current LED on my bike, I'd agree with what everyone else is saying. Having people flash you is indicative that your lights are causing them issues, which is a huge safety concern. At the very least you probably need to adjust your headlight aim.

It's great you can see, but if you're blinding other drivers, then that could be a huge issue, and any accidents or issues will end up being your fault.

The new Jeeps drive me nuts. Multiple crazy bright LEDs stock, and then people seem to like adding light bars. Ick...

 

Yup it drives me nuts. Even when people accidentally have their high beams on during the daylight it can be blinding. There's a guy in town with a ford 150 lifted about a foot with super swampers and about 4 light bars that he has on ALL the time, its so freaking annoying and while I'm sure he can see everything within a mile but if you're driving towards him, you can not see the road I'm front of you.

Curved on the roof, one on a bull bar, and 2 ditch lights facing straight forward. There may be one in the grill too but its hard

I know. Its nuts what some of these lighting companies are charging. It's too bad that OEM LEDs for 2nd gen tundras ( sequioa lights) cost about double what OEM LEDs for 3rd gen tundras. Those sequoia LEDs sure are bad ass though.

 

I used to drive a tacoma and I built 2 sets of headlights so i could probably build a set for my tundra but I'm to the point now that its justveaiset to buy a set and install. That way my wife's not like "WTF IS IN MY OVEN?" You dont like Headlight casserole?
