Alumas, Icons and Nittos...must stop!

This forum offers me a love/hate relationship. I love seeing all of your amazing rigs, mods, ideas, and input. I HATE my credit card bill every month! I'm addicted and can't keep away. While in meetings, at home, lunch, everywhere...I am always watching this damn forum. Help!

These babies were waiting for me yesterday! It made me giggle as I pulled up.

I already installed the COs (look and ride great) to replace a failed 6112. The Nittos (waiting on one more) are being mounted on Icon Rebounds (matt black) today--can't wait to get off of work to go get 'em. I also have TC UCAs to install and then off to an alignment.

I decided to go with C rated Nittos due to all of the comments regarding E rated harshness and I'm trying to soften the ride a bit. I'm new to this so we will see how it goes. She's only a DD anyway. The only offroading is an occasional trail during hunting season and the beach during the summer and striper season.

The only struggle I am having are the lugs. 4wheelparts was adamant that ET lugs were required and Icon and Wheelers, who I call directly, said acorns were the way to go. I've also seen conflicting accounts on this forum specific to this wheel--I ordered both and will decide which works. Easy there now, I know, Icon should be the final say, but I am worried that only 4 turns on the bolt with acorns won't be enough.

 

Why mess around? I would go with ET lugs, especially if you only get 4 turns on acorns!

What acorns did you get?

I used these from Wheelers on my Rebounds. I think they look great and I've had no issues.

 

What type of failure on the 6112?

 

See pics. Top cap on shock body separates leaking oil everywhere...that's how I knew there was a problem. The right front also started feeling a little bouncy. No offroading at all! No major potholes.

 

You will love these alumas. Myself and @DecalsByDesign have these. Don't know of anyone else but you will love them.

 

I ordered the wheelers as well. Take a look at the ETs on her. Took them off and will wait for acorns to come in. They look long as hell on the wheels. Maybe, just maybe, a 1 inch vs the 1.5 would have worked. I do have to say it was nice to have as many full rotations as I did with the ETs

 

Loving them so far. However, I need to adjust them. Riding an inch off from one another.

 

So, here is where I am reaching out for some input. Take a peek at my rub on the front liner at full lock. I have read so many posts stating those who have used a heat gun to "push" it in. Since it's rubbing the bottom, I'm not sure "how" to do this. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Also wondering, would see one adjustment with alignment help with this?

 

There are no issues with the skid plate nor anywhere else...at least on the drivers side

 

Icon machines their hub mounting surface thinner so that the ET lug nuts are not required. The ET portion of the lug nut will bottom out before the wheel is properly torqued.

 

I'm surely no expert but I read that too in another post. The problem is that there is so little lug peeking through that I don't think they will. Here's a pic of one of them after mounting and properly torquing to spec...97 ft lbs. As you can see, the angled edge seated and the extended portion has no marks suggesting it bottomed out.

 

One is an inch higher than the other?

Hmmm... mine seem like they came from the factory about 3.5 inches of lift in the front, that is what my measurements are telling me, but it aligned perfectly and no shutters or vibrations

 

Hoping for some help here.

I took a heat gun to one fender well, but I ended up removing the lining and drilling new holes for the bolts about a half inch back, this easily took care of it and looks WAY better. I'll try to find a link for a fellow Rebound owner.

 

When I bought my black rhino glamis wheels americas tire ordered me the same lug nuts as the one in your pic

 

So I used a heat gun I bought at Harbor Freight for like 25 bucks and used the end a a hammer or mallet to push the fender to re mold it just dont over heated where it melts just get it soft

 

This is the best I could find before I go to bed. Ignore the trimming, drill these new holes and it will push the liner forward when re-installed.

This part of the install is driving me nuts...pun kind of intended. The best I can tell, the ETs don't bottom out BUT Icon was clear that acorns are the way to go. These things are 2 3/16" long. Toytec offers 1.69" long which to me would look much better. I'm going to see how the acorns work out and make a decision from there. Thanks for the input.
