Goal is to get +2 in rear with stock shocks if possible. Minimal off-road, minimal towing...which would be better option cost and long run?

Just note that you are not going to get the full 2 inches out of +2 or +3 shackles. Even if you go with the toy tech adjustable. It seems that you get about half the longer length of the shackle. So if it’s 2 inches longer it will give you about an inch of lift. 3 inches longer gives you about an inch and a half.

I think the most important thing is what @15Yota pointed out. Blocks induce axle wrap so shackles fosho.

Shackles plus a tough country add a leaf. The tough country will get you about an 1.5” and is under $100. That’s what I had on my old truck plus coachbuilder #2’s. Center hub to rear fender was at 26.75”.

+1 for shackles. I have a brand new set of coach builder shackles (+2) if interested. Still in the box and wrapped in packaging. Comes with bushings and all hardware.

I can give you a smoking deal since they won’t be used anytime soon.

The Toytec shackles at highest setting will get you 1.5". I used them with AAL.

I've got the 1.5" version on the way. I will use the brake line adapter kit from Toytec and possibly AAL.

Appreciate all the feedback...was thinking about a 3/2 lift but parked next to a 3rd Gen Tundra with a 6” lift and thought that is really the height I am looking for. Is there any way to get a 6” lift front and rear without blocks in the rear?

How do shackles ride smoother than blocks?

Maybe someone else more knowledgeable can chime i here if I miss this, but I’m pretty sure shackles also include poly bushings for the leafs, and those bushings are the big difference. They are way better bushings than the OEM leaf bushings so you get the ride quality gains from that.

From what I’ve seen in other threads BDS makes a quality lift if you’re okay with a little cutting (only applicable to 4x4s)...and apparently rough country doesn’t require cutting, but I haven’t seen a lot of praise for it.

I’m not the expert though, I went with a 3/1.5

The factory shackles are splined, and don’t move freely. If you replace the shackles, you have to replace the bushings at the same time so the splines don’t eat up the shackles. Then the shackles can float, and movement is free in the rear end.
