After doing some great reading here it seems there's not a lot of love for either the new Bridgestone's or the 20'' tire package i just got on my new sport. I understand the tire evaluation, but why would Toyota go to 20''? Is it for gas mileage, better ride quality, or is it something else? Thanks.

    Fact:
Lower profile tires are supposed to handle better.

    Opinion:
Hence why they would put them on a sport that would likely spend most of its time on the street.

I think they followed the big 3 into the 20” market. 20’s used to be the high end option for looks and tire manufacturers followed.

Thanks Scuba, the truth is my truck will likely live 70% of its life out on the road as a work truck, and the other 30% in the woods when we get a chance to relax. That was one of the factors that went into buying just a Sport and not a Pro.

I think it's more for appearance, because you need to more than run low profile tires to make these big vehicles handle the curves at speed. And even then, it's a truck with rear leaf springs... larger wheels do allow for larger brakes.

    Simple answer: Looks.

The other manufacturers are doing it, so why not keep up to an extent. I recently went from 20" down to 18" wheels. If I want a thin sidewall, I'll put them on my sports car.

Dodge was the first to set the trend. Big wheel wells and big rims.

Had there been better options, I probably would have. I would have really liked the Method NV in a 17" with a +25 offset. That would have been perfect.
