I’m suspecting fuel pump easy way to check is when it won’t start crawl underneath and have someone cycle the key a few times don’t start just turn to on. And listen for the pump to cycle. If it doesn’t hum pump is prob going bad once it heats up it’s shutting off. Try to keep at least a half tank of gas in it

Your remark that you have to wait until June suggests that the failure only happens in hot ambient temperature. Engine operating temp should be the same all year long so that leads me to believe you have an electrical device failing when it gets hot. You might want to use a hair dryer and warm up different components and see if you can duplicate the problem. I had a vehicle with the same symptoms and it turned out to be the fuel pump relay.

OP says the temp gauge is normal if it were the stat gauge would indicate one way or the other I would think and if were to be stuck closed it should puke coolant if it were stuck open it wouldn’t overheat hence not get to hot to start

I misread the OP, I interpreted "Gets hot and won't start" as above normal operating temp

I am the original owner and I have no key ring. Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson do that job without keys. I let it crank. It only happens when it's hot. After pulling a load in hot weather a couple times. But the other day it happened without working, just a hot day. Like the old vapor lock days. Strange.

My fault, not a great typer. ;) The gauge doesn't read hot, It just feels hot when I open the hood. Plus it usuallhy happens when It's been pulling a heavy load on a hot day. Coolant has never risen above normal in the overflow. I was thinking about a flush, but it is so clean.
    Tech stream? What's that?

try turning the key on an off a few times before cranking it, to build up fuel pressure at the pump, that will tell you if the fuel pump is the issue

I will if it happens again. I don't expect it to get hot again until at least next June. Fall just came this week. Thanks. ;)
