The main reason Katrina was so bad for N.O. Was because the pumps weren’t working or were shut off (that’s the gov’s job to maintain/start them up) causing the levee to bust by the 9th ward pouring a ton of Lake Ponchatarain into a city that can be described as a soup bowl.

Katrina was a terrible hurricane, but it shouldn’t have been that bad in New Orleans.

I understand that, but it didn't help when they gave a delayed emergency evac order. My unit went and worked the aftermath.... It wasn't pretty

I see what you’re saying now.

You’re right about the evac, but a good portion of people decided to ride it out. They changed their minds fast when the levee broke. LOL

The worst thing I remember about Katrina is the years after. My hometown was a nice quiet small town for years. After Katrina, people started migrating north. A lot settled in Gonzales. Now the crime has skyrocketed, a lot of nice areas are now ghettos, people are downright nasty, no one cares anymore. I don’t even recognize it anymore.

Yeah that totally sucks. You should have seen how people were treating my unit and others who were just trying to help. It was horrible. I remember the apartment complex I lived in during that time ended up renting to those that came from NO... They destroyed my complex.... It went from a nice complex to a shit hole in less than a month. I had to constantly tell people to get the fuck out of the bed of my truck and to quit leaning on it. Was aggravating

Oh I heard horror stories. Can only imagine how bad it was for y’all!

As sad as it is, a lot of “refugees” were nothing more than punks and thugs that appreciate nothing. I took on a side hustle a year or two after Katrina rounding up, hauling and cleaning FEMA trailers. You WOULD NOT BELIEVE the state they were in on the inside. It was HORRIBLE. Imagine if you had a daycare full of diaperless babies with diarrhea and decided to use the place as a crap and slide.....I’m not exaggerating. It was the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life. That was about half of them, as for the other half the crap fest was contained to the bathroom but the rest was a life size roach motel.
I’ve even flipped houses in BR (not the best areas of BR) where it was similar. I can’t imagine how people can live like that!

It never made landfall on the US, except for Cape Hatteras it's crossing over now, but that doesn't count.

Unfortunately even though in your eyes it doesnt count, there have been four deaths reported in North Carolina already.

Wow! That was a long fucking stretch... I never mentioned the body count, I'm just talking about the eye making landfall.

Whodathunkit......a thread on a hurricane turns into - climate change - science - politics - clean up comments - ban threat - (back to) hurricane - evacuation - refugees - (more) clean up comments - apathy accusations....hey, we missed one ban threat.

    Stick with the program, folks!

You’re right. I escaped Katrina the day before it hit and returned a few days later. Katrina didn’t even hit New Orleans. The eye was further east and slammed into and demolished the Mississippi Gulf Coast instead. But when the New Orleans levees breeched, that’s when that poor city suffered all that flooding.

Yep. Some areas still haven’t recovered from Katrina.

Well no damage to house. Tree debris everywhere. Neighbor Greg tells me I have a widow maker up in my gumball tree.

There's a video of some Ass Clown who apparently thought his ford could float on water. Not! Stay tuned, As soon as I find it I'll post it here:D
Hopefully everyone was rescued and ok over on Ocracoke Island. Most residents hunkered down and were overwhelmed by storm surge. Risky call

Then there was the idiot who drove out on the beach at Myrtle. I saw on some press they reporting that it was carried out there by the storm, didn't take much to find that it was driven out there yet they reported wrong anyway.

I don't see how that Dodge is going to pull that truck out. It looks buried. Should never pull in reverse either.
