Gotta go to work today. Only rain and 25-35 mph winds. The world of IT doesn't sleep. Thoughts and prayers with those in the Bahamas and those affected. Stay safe everyone!

If I remember correctly, that was not long after Katrina, so people weren’t taking chances. Can’t believe people are upset that Dorian didn’t do a lot of damage. We’re two years post Harvey, and there’s still people who haven’t gotten their homes back.

Rita didn’t do crap, but here’s a picture near my house after Harvey. This house is on stilts. It actually sits on the property we lived on when we first got married. We got flooded out in 94, and moved. Our old house would basically be sitting right under this one....

@GravityGear, this is why I don't leave when they forecast......It's Headed Right For Us. It's a CYA for States and counties involved to evacuate. You can't blame them, as they should do it. The media on the other hand is a joke in their coverage and overkill. I would rather be at home dealing with the aftermath then somewhere that also might be without power and not being able to get home due to trees down on interstate blocking travel for days. We went through that shit with Isabel. Stay safe whatever you decide to do.

I know people give weather people grief but to me weather is one of the most unpredictable forces out there. I'm sure there have been plenty of people who were impacted severely by not leaving wishing they had listened to the weather people and media. I would rather have my family save and inconvenienced than drowned.

I don't fault meteorologist, I fault the media for hyping these events and needlessly freaking out the masses. The media is in it for ratings & market share, and the old adage "if it bleeds - it leads" is all the media cares about. They should tone it down a few notches, and stick to the facts.

Katrina's wrath did freak Houston out. People in Houston and the north side 50-75 miles from the coast were evacuating creating issues for those much closer to the coast. Houston will fair better than N.O. in any scenario.

Rita turned East and hammered the Beaumont area. I knew folks that went that way, what ended up being towards the storm.

Harvey's rain was stupid nuts, 55-60 inches will flood most places. Water got up to our door steps, folks 3 houses either side of us got an inch or two inside. May as well be a few feet. We were very lucky; never lost power, cable or internet.

    Out our front door.

    Out the Back Door.

The Pool turned into a pond. We fished about 100 minnows out and a crawfish.

I live at the beach in SC and the mad scramble off the island Sunday night by all tourists was comical, even though I left on Monday like a chump. Now, I’ve lost 4 days of pay because mandatory evac shut everything down since. They’re saying we “MIGHT” be able to return on Friday.

I’m very glad we wont fare as bad as the Bahamas, but the premature call is very infuriating.

So in 1999, as Hurricane Floyd started threatening SC, no evac orders...no preparation...no nothing

    They waited

And then the evac orders came late...and people sat on I26 for 12-16 hours in gridlock...many people ended up having to weather the storm in their vehicles

After that...they're very quick to issue those orders...because honestly its better to be early than not...yeah people get a little pissy but still better than being stuck on the interstate for 12 hours

It is sad that people always complain, look at the Bahamas and then decide if the orders to evacuate were in vain.

A certain one time governor forgot that his team has to make the call to shut down east bound traffic on I26. I remember it well.

They don't want another 'Hurricane Katrina' incident .... Or others like it.

I’m not saying it was a bad call. It’s just that 6 days early seems a bit excessive

There can’t be another Katrina on that side of the country. Even though it’s not high elevation it’s still not below sea level. AND...the amount of low income people without vehicles is much lower on the east coast

Katrina definitely changed the Hurricane game, for sure

The orders were not in vane. Just premature in my opinion

Yes, it was a Cat 5 at that point but the structures in the US are obviously built in a first world country rather than a poverished area

    Again, just my ignorant opinion
