Hi again, I see a lot about mechanical and fun stuff here. But I'm wondering is the Nav system anything to really spectacular that I'm missing out on. I use Waze for nav and listen to AM radio talk shows on long drives. I'm fairly tech savvy but over the years it bores me after having do it for a living. TIA

I couldn’t stand the regular radio with the scout app navigation. I “upgraded” to a stock unit with integrated navigation and like it much much better. But most upgrade by going aftermarket. Apple CarPlay, dvd, etc......possibilities are limitless. I mostly do Spotify, local radio and waze. I will eventually upgrade speakers and way down the road maybe get a new head unit.

I use my iPhone XR when I need to access a map quickly. I found the scout connected-navigation app to be atrocious and didn't find the integrated entune navigation much better (aside from not having to run an app on my iPhone). Aftermarket with carplay/android auto is the way to go, IMO.

Thanks I'll research. Would be nice to use the screen to run an app instead of playing around on a phone. The after market sounds interesting.

I bought the Kenwood DMX7706S from Crutchfield with the most expensive harness and ready harness service. Works like a dream, has carplay/auto and improve stock speaker sound dramatically. Also now have access to OBD car reading info like engine temp, transmission, electronic speedo and rev counter, list goes on.

Cool. Does it fit in the existing dash set up?

Crutchfield sells everything you need to mount the head unit, including replacement dash trim and the steering wheel control adapter. Simply input your make/model/year/trim level.

They currently have a rebate for Kenwood purchases right now...

Thanks for the input so far out there. Do you have to pay for Apple car play? Is it an app that you load on your phone with a monthly fee? TIA and please excuse my lack of knowledge. I'm sorta of not that much into gadgets anymore as I'm getting close to 60.

It should be a free app download from your app store.
You just plug your lightning cable charger into the radios usb port and it should come up on the radio screen

Will do. I'll do the install. Just don't want to be scratching my head anymore. I have an associates in electronics for back in the TTL CMOS day:thumbsup:. Our 1st course was vacuum tubes.

Carplay is built into iOS. You just need to connect your iphone to a carplay compatible head unit and you'll be good to go.
