First, excuse the mess in my Garage! Also, I couldn't get the full width of the projectors. I will be updating this thread with better pictures and output shots.

This comparison is of the cutoffs of the Mini D2S 3.0, RX350 and the new D2S 4.0.
This is not an output comparison

Pictures were taken with Nikon D5300 all with the same settings. No other modifications has been made to the pictures.

All projectors used Osram CBI bulbs with Denso Ballasts for the comparison.

    About The Cutoffs (my experience)

    Mini D2S 3.0
This projector provides a decent cutoff with adequate light. IMO, the FX-R 3.0's blow the Mini D2S 3.0 out of the water. These projectors are discontinued so even if you wanted these (I doubt) you cant get them. At least not "new".

    Mini D2S 4.0
Can you say...Holy Sh**! The new Mini D2S 4.0 Projectors surprised me completely. Not only is the performance increased, the quality of the projector has improved tremendously! They have a super clean sharp cutoff. I haven't seen a cutoff this sharp other than the LS460. The hotspot is super bright (Light around Cutoff)! Though because the light is more focused in the center, you get distance but sacrifice width which IMO is more important. It is slightly more wider than the Mini D2S 3.0's though. But the main focus on these were quality, distance and cutoff. Morimoto done an outstanding job on these projectors.

The High beam is simply AMAZING! The best Ive ever seen actually. It throws light higher and further. Im speechless when it comes to the high beams.

    RX350 (Modded)
My personal favorite. Though these projectors don't have as sharp of a cutoff like the 4.0s or a bright hotspot, they have amazing distance and width. The spread of the projects amazes me everytime I drive at night. Though The new Mini D2S 4.0 are pretty close in comparison, they still need some improvements before they can meet the OEM RX350 projectors.

    Verdict
The Mini D2S 4.0 sure does pack a punch! Especially for its price. I would definitely recommend these projectors over almost any projectors especially if you dont want to cough up the $$ for OEM projectors. These paired with some CBI bulbs or Nightbreakers would be all you need.

I personally will keep my RX350 projectors. I still dont think they perform as good as them even though they are close. Another great OEM performer I started to like is the Murano Projectors.

    Not considering money being a factor, my choices in order would be;
    1. RX350 (modded)
    2. Murano (Modded)
    3. Mini D2S 4.0

Leo, Since I'm thinking about doing my retrofit with RX350 projectors can I expect this sort of cutoff. Not sure what you mean by RX350 modded? Will mine be modded or not ... maybe, I should reconsider and go with the Mini D2S 4.0's.

The RX350's cutoff isnt short at all. The Mini D2S 4.0 cutoff is huge at 25+ feet which is one thing I dislike about them. Yes yours will be modded as well.

Leo, I found this Youtube video ... is this what you mean by modded RX350 projectors?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPjupWFxE34

The cutoff in your photo stating RX350 (Modded) looks a lot like the cutoff in the video. I am getting freaking excited about this ...

Nice! I know this is the brights, but did you have to lower them any so you dont blind people on low beam? ha

Would pulling out my 3.0's and putting 4.0's be an option? or would it be best to get a new housing and set of projectors?

Swapping projectors is easy. Even if it is jb welded on. No need to waste money buying a new housing

Can't decide if I want to to the 4.0s or put up some extra cash for the RX350's.

No one likes the FXR anymore?

Or is mini d2s 3.0/4.0 just the user friendly kit?

The D2S projectors are made to be user friendly. In fact, FX-R is still a pretty good projector. Only thing Mini D2S 4.0 have over the FX-R is the High beams and smaller size. Imo, low beam output is about the same between the two. RX350 Projectors are still the best and I doubt the next mini D2S 5.0 will be better.

I really dont like the Cutoff on the Mini D2S 4.0 as its too big! At distances, its extremely huge and not my cup of tea. I also dont like the steep slope of the cutoff. Other than that, its still an amazing projector especially for the price.

Heck, it's only money ... J/k. I'll post some pics after I get my set back for those interested in the RX350 projectors. While I'm sure the 4.0's would have been good enough for me ... I just figured if the RX350's were good enough for Lexus and @eledobleu then I'm all in with them.

Lol. I'm actually leaning towards the RX350s. Granted any of the projectors would be an upgrade over crappy boring stock halogens but I don't mind spending some more money to keep it Toyota OEM with those. The stock lighting didn't bother me as much until we got my fiancé a Corolla S with the factory LED headlights now every time I drive that I'm thinking damn I need to upgrade to fancy lights lol.
