Opinions are like assholes! Everyone has one and they all stink.

Standard disclaimer: You break it, you buy it. Or some such.

The wiring diagrams that I have cover from 2007-2013 and 2015, I don't have one for 2014. I can't say that this will work for 2016 and up, buuuuut they're "seen" as 3rd Generation along with 2014-15, and they're listed in the diagram. The chances are in your favor and I will let someone else sort that.

With that out of the way.....get the passenger side kick panel out of your way because that's where the action is going to take place.

Here is a picture of the connectors behind the kick panel. You can see the one that I've removed, in the diagrams it's referred to as AJ4 and is white. We will be handling that one.

    IMG_20190825_173844.jpg

In the 6th and 7th positions there are two wires, a beige one and a green one respectively. In my diagram for 2015, these wires are in positions 17 and 18 but are still beige and green. See images.

    2007-2013 diagram:

    2007-2013diagram.jpg

    2015 diagram:

    2015diagram.jpg
    IMG_20190825_173958.jpg

Just switch their positions, plug it back in and you're done! :burp:

    :p

To do that, take a small flat bladed screwdriver and lift this keeper/lock like a mm or two. It doesn't take much. You may ever hear it 'click'. Of note: While proceeding from here, the chances are enormous that you're going to accidently push one side of it or the other back down. The number of times that I did this falls somewhere between 1 and 100.

    IMG_20190825_174224.jpg

Now, get an ever smaller screwdriver, or possibly a stickpin, and jamb it in your eye. This will improve your vision immensely for the very fine work to come. I neglected to do this as you will see (what I did there) in this next picture.

    IMG_20190825_175212.jpg

On the lower row and in the third position you can see where I have slightly distorted the connector hole. This is primarily because I pretty much had little idea how the little catch was holding the wire in the connector, only that it was. After zooming in on the photo, I think that I have a general idea. Here's my hypothesis: Using the screwdriver/stickpin, insert it into the space above the square hole but below what looks like a small arch. Then gently "pry" up to release the catch while gingerly removing the wire from the other side "back" of the connector. Some dexterity is required.:fingerscrossed:

Do this to the adjacent wire, (remember beige and green and their original positions) and fit them in reverse positions. You should feel and hear a click. Press the keeper/lock down flush and plug the connector back in. Test drive before replacing the kick panel just in case you unintentionally fit the wires back into their original positions.:smack:

If you're as OCD as @TruckyTruck is about the + and - symbols, just do this mod:

    IMG_20160313_114417557_HDR.jpg

I have tested this on a short drive this evening with zero ill effect. The numerical display while in S-Mode indicates as you would expect.

Thanks to @ViktorG I think. I seem to remember that he was the person to tell me which wires to change, but they were the ones tucked under the shift console, and as it turns out they're rather difficult to access.

Thanks to @Duneflyer for mentioning in the @OVTune thread that this frustrated him to no end. I needed something to do today while waiting for Mat to compile a tune for my ECU.

I know that there were others that I wanted to tag because they may be interested in doing this, now that I try to think of their usernames, I can't! :rofl:I'll add them as I recall, otherwise those of you tagged, tag others that you think would like to do this.

    Enjoy!

    Very nice!

That's a pretty nice fix for the way the shifter should have been set up in the first place. Think I'll have to do this one. Good job!!!

Thanks for doing the homework for this. I plan to do it this weekend... Tho... Since I grew up on a farm and learned how to "just make it work, dammit!!" I may be doing it the simpler way.:boom:

@Wynnded where did you find the material for your shifter boot? I zoomed in and saw the stitching.

I shopped it on eBay a number of years ago. There's also a current thread here: Shifter Boot Mod There's also knob info, you'll have to shop for the one that you like.

    Have fun with it!!

Honestly, I thought bout the column shift while writing this up and how yours isn't an "issue".

I don't use S Mode often, so this is new to me. This mod reverses the direction of the sequential shifting, such that pushing forward downshifts and pulling back upshifts? :notsure:

I find it more intuitive. Not somewhat unlike a motorbike, the gear change levers away from the body changes to a lower ratio.

Exactly. For some reason, there are several of us that our brains work backwards from what Toyota was thinking.. maybe its because of motorcycles.. but changing the direction just seems right

I'm old and pretty much shot, so it's probably a little Dementia setting-in but I'm really not seeing where gear selection in S Mode is backwards. I can't remember the last time I've driven my truck in 'D' and upshifting moving the lever up, downshifting moving the lever down, seems only natural:notsure: What am I missing:confused:

It's simply a personal preference. Some feel one way is "correct" because....(enter argument for/against here). I simply feel it's more intuitive, as I've described above.

I think our brains are the ones not working backwards... Lol. You pull back on the stick when you fly an airplane to go up, why wouldn't you pull back on your shifter to go up in the gears!

As soon as this gear lock business is a go, it will really be important to have the shifter set up the "right" way!

This is great, thanks for the write up!

I had a Hurst "slap shifter" in a race truck and it was "slap it back to go go go" and forward to downshift. That is engrained in me to be the "correct" way so this fix is perfect.

Yep. How do you deal with the general aviation throttle design that requires you push the throttle knob and shaft into the firewall to go faster? Yep, designed that way to prevent the extended throttle being bent in a crash with the engine running at full power. In fact, pushing forward to go faster is standard on all aircraft throttles. :D

It don't matter to me. Once I've figured what action creates what result, I'm good.
