Yeah, this was one more run I shoulda had my GoPro attached to the front. I need to work on an attachment point. It woulda been cool to see ‘what Hulk saw’.

Man, all that being said, I was going to tease you about your dash cam quality. Then I realized it's a video of a video. I'm glad this worked out and thank you for sharing with a group. Amazing how fast things can go south. Nice truck BTW!

The actual clip on an SD card is longer and im not savvy enough on YouTube to edit so the faster way to get it posted was video of video...

Second person who said that my baby is still nice when it’s durty!!

Wish you could've been there Mike! The route up was the most difficult it's been. This was about the 6th or 7th time I've run it W2E(uphill grind). I met a couple locals in SxSs near the top while waiting for the group. They said that the hellacious winter they had washed all the accumulated topsoil away between the rocks. I believe them cause I don't remember it being that tough. But then again I was driving a vehicle with open diffs.IMG_0075.jpgIMG_0076.jpg IMG_0163.jpg

Yeah, that’s it! Ha, looked steeper in Teal Life than in your pic (always does). I felt it grabbing Hulk’s feet on the way up, but we just kept running and got through. That bit was a fun exception to the otherwise slow steady at which we did much of this run. And it’s true; when you see another truck go first, the challenge outweighs the risk.

Haha! It’s good no one tried suicide hill because, well, if ‘I saw him do it’, I’d....

Yeah. I didn’t know how/ where anyone got pinstripes; I figured @fisherman951 had come through unscathed. I was sad to learn otherwise.

Dude I wish man. Spent all weekend slaving in the hot summer sun moving Colton's shit. Total PITA.

I've only ran White Mtn once, it was uphill, and so so so fun.

Shocking the side by sides said to turn around lol. You guys are all "we're in Toyota's, just watch"

Here's what it looked like last year -
    (best example I can find)

Right! Pictures take away 15 degrees

Lol. You never turn down a challenge fearless leader!

I've never done the bypass, good to know it's pinstripe alley. I'll stick to the hill! lol

It's a bummer, but stoked he sounds pumped nonetheless!

Don't worry @fisherman951 some claybar and wax will polish her right back up (unless of course you want to rock those stripes with honor and pride)

Lol. Easy spot to slip off on.

Glad I was able to help push the boundaries! Those guys we spoke with had just come down it so of course it didn't seem that hard to them! The two old dudes in the SxS were right about the trail being much rockier near the summit. But I thought wtf, the first time I ran this trail, I was in an underpowered, open diff vehicle and I got thru, so I decided then we would go on to 3N11.

    Right there with ya!

Trail pinstripes have a different and distinct look compared to shopping cart dents and door dings from mall crawling.

That top video of you getting held up looks worse than what we found. There weren’t really any patches of that fine dirt in combination with big rock this time; I understand the top soil that used to be, had washed away. Instead, we had stretches of either smooth hard dirt OR rock gardens— but most of those had rocks of similar size, so it won’t be hard for you guys if you fit this into your run with the BAsTRD’s.

We ran the route sketched in red as a group of 9 trucks, clockwise (3N14 west from Big Pine Flats, up around to 3N17 east, then 3N11 back south to Big Pine Flat). That section of 3N11 is the only sandy bit now.

Then 3 of us (me + one previous gen Taco + one 3rd gen Tundra— both with few upgrades except challenge-loving drivers!) went counterclockwise (so, down the steep hill, not up) on the route sketched in blue. So 3N16 east out of Big Pine Flat (rolling graded fire road), then north/west back on 3N17. We didn’t do that little triangle to the right, at least I don’t think we did :notsure:. This was not very challenging, but looked like it would be going the other direction. And this section does have a short stretch of that combination of silt and varying sized rocks— to go up, sliders and skids for the win.

We did this bit so quickly, we decided to drive down to the mine, 3N16. It is very narrow with one small stretch of off-camber (leaning toward the steep endless drop-off of course!). Where the far switch back shows on the map, you could pull one Tundra off to turn around (that’s what @JDL17CM4x4 did) or to Austin Powers a 2nd or 3rd gen around a huge extension of rock on the inside of that turn. I followed the Taco all the way to the bottom and had plenty of tire width (I think my front width on Hulk matches a stock 3rd gen, but it’s probably not wide enough for your big trucks with LT feets. This is offered as a trip report... mostly because I’ve never known any of you to pass up a back-country mine. :)

If SGU and BAsTRD’s add this to your BB run, it’d be a better challenge doing this part sketched in blue clockwise instead, so you go up the steep climb on 3N17 east of 3N11. Also (attention @joonbug) there are two paths up here, one I just described and another, steeper, taller climb that’s all boulders— the rocks appear to me to be well locked together and climbable, but we didn’t get out on foot to check. But no cliffs to roll off of here; looks doable for those awesome trucks + drivers you guys bring. (And I hate wait to try it!) Also the intersection where 3N17 and 3N11 meet is huge; plenty of parking for all your fat girls.

    Doh! Here’s the map:

Edit: Daniel corrected me; we DID do that little triangle at the right of where I sketched the blue “extra credit” route we did. And so that’s the fun part the BAsTRD’s need to know about. And, in case I wasn’t clear, when I mentioned 2 options— one with silt and rocks, the other all white rocks = “White Mountain”, they’re within sight of each other. Great idea would be to go up one, come back down, go up the other, (not sure I’d) come back down that rock wall....

So here’s the map with a second arrow, urging that you continue east for those two side by side obstacles. *Oside, I know you know all this, but figured updated info on current conditions is never bad, and our NorCal homies may like to know.

In most areas of life, I make a point not to discount the advice of others, but over and over again, I’ve heard people tell us Tundras can’t make it... every place we’ve driven our Tundras. I’ve learned that, as long as there’s a way back, I should check a little farther forward.... :p

@Big_Tun and @LV_Butters was your group part of this group of Tundras there this weekend?

I'm seeing pictures from a bunch of friends and it looks like we might have had two different groups of Tundras on the mountain at the same time and didn't know it...

This spot looks familiar doesn't it @n2deep and @osidepunker ?

2017 Inferno Tundra DC TRD & Longtravel 1st Gen, Banner/ HulkSmash build
Wait, whut?!! Is this that part you warned me about? Is this that “3 wheel hill” we were just posting pics of, from another angle, or some other spot?

I spent the entire trip trying to figure out where to ‘keep my tires to the left’ to avoid slipping off the side... and asked Paul, do you think he meant, going west or east? Didn’t even recognize this as a place to worry. :eek2:

Not to worry. They'll only post pics on Snapchat.
