Replace front dashboard factory speakers on Tundras

Oh... I would have figured it would of been on its own independent channel.

In that case, what size is it?

 

It runs off of each front channel, so it's a bridged channel. Here's a pic of the back with part number and specs, looks like a 3.5 inch:

Ah, OK. So its got a high pass filter. Looks like it starts blocking frequencies below 200hz.

Edit: dang, not an easy speaker to find that's a direct swap.

 

Let us know if you find any. I still need a front center channel changed

 

These new 3.5 kickers speakers do a Good job. They are a new product-2019

 

Did you add a filter to these or any special wiring for the Center channel?

 

No Filters- I left the factory adapter in place, I unplugged the speaker dual coil little guy and connected the new 3.5 , I tapped into the factory harness used only to wires on the adapter -outside wires +. And. ~
That all..I replaced all 3 front speakers on the dashboard.

 

How do you get the plastic speaker covers off without marring the rest of the dashboard? Any tips for me?

Also, got any part numbers or links to the speakers you used?

The covers pull out very easily. I used my fingers but there are plastic tools to remove vehicle’s panels

Yes, 2 pairs- 4 speakers- one extra - future repairs- it’s hot in Phoenix Arizona- they will deteriorate in a few years- exposure to 130 degrees inside the vehicle- summer!!

 

I picked up a set of these kickers, anything has to be better than the factory sound. Im just looking at quick easy fix, I don’t feel like pulling door panels or swapping head units, hopefully these will help out a little.

 

Kickers might not fit. I would go with infinity for a better fitment under the grills on the dash. Just fyi

 

Did anyone else use the kickers like the OP? I want to try but am hoping that someone took some pictures of how they wired the speakers. Thanks

 

I used the ones from this thread on my truck. They dont line up in with the factory mount holes and are a little big but I made them work.

 

How did you wire them in? Do you have any pics? And did they make a difference with the sound?

 

They do sound much better. I wired them up by clipping the factory plug off the old speaker, and using but connectors. That was pretty easy. The hardest part is making them fit into the hole and still getting the cover back on to sit flush. I don't have any pictures but I can get you some tomorrow.

 

Did you just use the two outside wires on the factory plug? That would be awesome if you can get some pictures. I would like to see how you got them to fit. Thanks.

 

I'll get you some photos tomorrow, its easy enough to get to. I can't remember exactly which wires so I'll show you where I spliced in. I'll show you how the mount holes don't line up and how I got them in there.

Quick question, does this mod effect the Bluetooth phone speakers?

 

This is driver side. Looking at the holes in the speaker and the holes in the dash, you can see where the kicker is too big. Picture two shows where I patched into the harness. Picture three you can see where the plug goes from 4 wires and and factory spliced down to two. I patched in after their splice. I was only able to use 1 bolt to secure it and broken several plastic pieces (I always do). On the passenger side I was able to run a self tapping screw into the plastic underneath to secure it better.

 

Thanks for the pictures. So are the speakers too big for the speaker cover to sit back flush after install?

 

To answer the Bluetooth question, I never noticed any issues but I usually always have my phone wire connected (not sure if the individual speaker matters). I ran out to my truck and just connected my phone to Bluetooth only, speakers work fine.

 

It may bulge slightly but it’s not noticeable (to anyone other than me). As long as you don’t break all the plastic clips. The plastic clips all sit down all the way.

To be honest, this isn’t something I would do again. I’d rather find something that fit perfect into the mount holes. I made it work and they do sound better though.
