So I figured id start a thread to track and archive my progress on my new to me 2005 Tundra Sr5 Access cab. The truck is a 175k mile 4.0L Auto 2wd cream puff and that will soon very change. My goal is to make a streetable rig that i can use as a reserve crawler.

    Build plan:
    LS 6.0l with some goodies
    5-speed NV4500
    NP271 manual shift T-case
05+ Super Duty front axle with 1550 joints, some type of mechanical locker, 4.88 gears
Late model 14B rear with disc brakes and a detroit
3-link front with Accutune tuned 2.5" coilovers and bump stops
Mechanical steering using mini-truck IFS box with hydro assist
leaf sprung rear - 94 F150 rear 57" leafs; Cantilever Fox 2.5" smoothie shocks
40" Toyo MTs on ATX Chamber II Beadlocks
Bumpers & Sliders (I really like the Brute Force front bumper)
Going to get Trail Toys to make me a rear high clearance rear bumper
    Debadge, black mirrors
Thinking some version of the Iron Man Ivan Stewart stripe package to get rid of some of the white
Camper shell for them cross country overlanding trips
    Profit

So here is the cherry '05 that i picked up last weekend. It has a "misfire" that the previous owner was trying to fix and gave up on. So far i found the new injectors he installed to be missing a few o-rings. It does run now, but leaks gas instantly on startup due to two injectors not having o-rings on the bottom.

    IsMnMuSEqYIDM0atQmCT6OuL3Vej_Tg3EPwNcgGQ_fa47b94ff519d735d23848e2eb850435ab3a2803.jpg

So far, i have removed the steps, the mud flaps, the fender trim, the chrome headache rack, and the bug deflector. Badges are next. Ive read that the large side molding has holes behind it, so i will just paint the chrome strip black and leave them on.

The stock 4.0. The PO installed lots of new parts to fix the misfire. New sensors, throttle body, plugs, coils, plug wires, injectors, fuel pump, fuel filter, radiator, etc. I will get it running and then yank it out.

The LS donor truck. Its a 2005 with 148k on it. 6.0l/NV4500 5-speed/NP271 truck that runs great.

here she is parked next to my first gen taco.

    40" Toyo MTs

The front axle. So far ive torched off the brackets. Still need to clean it up before the link mounts and truss can go on.

Thats about it for now. I am waiting on a the injector o-rings to come in, then ill yank out the 4.0 and the 6.0 to start the swap. I want to get the engine in and running before i start the SAS. I will be cutting the frame off at the firewall and rebuilding it up and forward for more uptravel.

Some of yall may recognize my crawling rig. Its a first gen truck body on a custom chassis i built. I also just finished up my first 40. Its been a lot of fun bringing it back from the dead.

I will update this as progress continues. Ill be in Hot Springs this weekend putting a beat down on the Squirrel with some friends.

I had no idea they offered these in the 4.0L. I only knew about the 3.4L. I can't imagine many were made with the 4.0L.

That’s my plan. The oil looked clean. I’m pretty sure it has fuel in it now though since there were no o rings on the injectors. Going to drain it and see what happens.

Watching patiently. If I keep my truck for any length of time I'm thinking more power is needed. Yeah an ls family swap probably isn't the most efficient if I'm keeping Toyota drivetrain, but they sure are fun engines that wake-up with minimal work/money

I installed the new o rings today on the injectors and no more fuel leaks. After an oil change and letting the white smoke clear out after a few minutes, I took it for a spin. Ran and drove great. Now to remove it.

Mmmmm 6.0l. Pulled it out yesterday and removed the wiring harness. I’ll send it to 150tunes to have Wayne thin it down into a stand-alone harness.

What are your plans for gauges? Remove/Replace or will you be able to make the LS talk to the Toyota ECU?

Toyota Ecu will be gone. I’d like to get the Toyota gauges to work somehow. If not I’ll just use a tablet with the dash command app and a Bluetooth obd2 dongle. Maybe some auto meter digital gauges if I have to.
