What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Had the track shifted in the door?

 

well the whole door is bent. the original locks were non power. the actuator added some extra mass there. the window track hole seems to have gotten worse since ive been using the window now. so thats likely why it became an issue

 

Got the truck back. Air in the P/S lines.

The Breather on the rear axle housing was indeed stuck closed. The removed, cleaned it up, tested & reinstalled.
I'll take the truck on a ride up to Durham, CT on Saturday - about an hour each way. Either I'll have a leaking pumpkin or I wont after that trip. Hopefully the breather was the actual issue. Only way to know is to test. That'll also fingerscrossed get the air out of the P/S system.

 

id run a breather line and a small fuel filter personally. diff can breath then. Ive got an ARB breather im going to run to the diffs and t case

 

That's half the reason I got out of wheeling. Now I just explore. Usually with a buddy riding shotgun or in most cases riding copilot with an AR haha.

 

Just buy a Garmin Inreach Mini ($350). There is a monthly service fee. It's not 100% as good as a friend in another truck, but will help you out on more likely scenarios (breaking down or getting stuck).

I use one traveling solo through Mexico for weeks on end. Gives me a little sense of comfort. I used to have to rent a satellite phone, but just got the Garmin InReach unit.

 

I'm having an issue where my seat belt light is flashing even when both passengers are buckled. I was inspecting the driver side button/latch and noticed that when the buckle isn't inserted I can't press the release button. It's stuck in the downward position. The other two buttons are not like that. I'm not sure if I should even worry about it or go ahead and replace it. Can't seem to find that part online.

 

Tundra is at the body shop. Going to be a few months likely. They’re working on it as they can

 

Today is a little overcast and I have a new garage to use so I adjusted the aim of my new LED lights. I ballparked them a few weeks ago when I first put them in but with moving to the new house I haven't had a chance to get them properly aligned. All was fine though since it still isn't dark until after 10pm and being an old codger stuck in a young body, I'm usually in bed before then.

I also think I have an exhaust leak. I can hear it when I step on the gas, nothing at idle. Not totally sure where it would be though and I'm too lazy to try and find it especially as there's no money available right now for parts.

 

@Outbound not trying to pry to much, but what part of Canada is Northern Alberta? Alberta looks pretty north as is...

 

Recently @Professional Hand Model (IIRC) posted about sealing a split seal around the steering column where it passes through the firewall. That is a cheap fix - some caulk or such. Made his exhaust noise go away.
I think it was a manifold leak "tick". Didn't fix it, but was a cheap way to address it for awhile. Might work for you.

I get it, I understand it, but that type of arrangement still makes me a little nervous.
I did similar once & it ended up being a complete waste of time & energy.

Easy way to know if you still have an exhaust leak is to go through a drive through. I always forget how loud my cars are until I go pick up a latte. Something about the walls and having my window down really make that stuff noticeable.

 

I'm in Grande Prairie. It's about 1 hour east of Mile Zero of the Alaska Highway, and 6.5 hours south of the Northwest Territories border. So yeah, it's not "far north" by our standards but it's pretty far north compared to Texas.

Yeah, I first noticed it when driving past some concrete barriers and then again in a drive thru. Bugs the hell out of me...

If it’s the steering shaft seal then you would hear it with the windows up from inside the cab. Drove me crazy for a few months but only take 1/2hr and $18 for the part to replace it

 

I only hear it with the windows down. It sounds similar to the exhaust manifold leaks I would constantly get with my 1994 Toyota pickup back in the day.

 

Hmm probably not it then. You can also peel the carpet from the brake pedal area, remove 3 screws and the black metal plate to look at the seal to check it’s condition

Just finished day 4 of servicing the truck with my dad, only like 6-7 things left to do. Speaking of that does anyone know what gear oil the differentials take also the transfer case.

 

Wow. Yeah, that's pretty far north. I'd be willing to bet if they had a farthest north trophy, you might win it.

But yours should be

$39 75W-90 GL-5 Limited Slip, Ultra Long Drain 500k Miles, Manual Transmission, Gear/Differential Lubricant (1 Gallon)

75W-90 in front diff and transfer case. Rear diff will depend on you having LSD or not. If you do, it will be 80W-90. You may have to add a friction modifier depending on what brand you buy.

 

Maybe in the Canadian category. LOL. I think we actually have a couple people on this board from Alaska. They'd be farther north than me.

Haha this beach doesn't get many. It doesn't get many people at all, that's why I like it. It is in damn near every car commercial though, that rock in the background.

 

Been hanging out in the Amazon Rainforest studying Hydraulics and how they effect the A340f transmissions. Added another approx. 1 quart to the system and the shifting smoothness is even more buttery. Technically, my next drain should be 4.5 quarts instead of the 3.5 quarts I’m used to.

Swung by Jeffes Garage and had him ride shotgun to diagnose the sound thats been around forever when driving between 25-65mph. Wha wha wha sound that gets louder the faster its driven. He seems to think the drivers wheel bearing is the culprit of which I concur. Its time to finally correct this problem.

I’ll have him next month do both bearings sides and maybe new OEM drums/shoes as well as brake cylinders since the axles will be off.

Other than that, the 02’ has been driving beautifully. Engine purrs just like new.

 

Thats a beautiful stretch of road. I think the babes stay around Malibu and have no reason to drive any farther north.
