    Hey Guys,

Is there enough space behind the rear seat on a Double Cab to fit a Subwoofer box?

    Thanks!

How about under the drivers side?

I’m planning (wanting) to install behind seat also. Even thinking as far as to notch out the rear of the seat/seats to fit em... or remount the rear seats a couple inches forward to fit it.

Installed this same sub and box in my DC. Hits hard and sounds like a larger box.

    Larry,

Yes it rocks! I researched and found a low profile box so it fits in the walls of the cargo box. It’s only a 10” Pioneer but it hits hard.

Yep.........no more is needed unless you just want to shake the mirrors of the cars around you! It's a snug fit but works.

    Hi Black Tundra,

I went on the Pioneer website and found that my local Best Buy sold them.

    Tia,

Check my profile out it lists all the speakers I used and amps. I had my local Best Buy install since I had existing components in my 08 Tundra. Best Buy uninstalled from my 08 for free and I had them reinstalled on my 2017 Tundra.

Look at the space behind seat when bottom seat is up, less than an inch. I have never seen A DC behind seat install. Here's mine, not that you asked.

I never found a sub box that fit. I think it's too small anyways, not enough volume. I ended getting a 8" kicked all in one box that fits under the driver seat. It's a little underwhelming but still a big improvement over the stock non job system. For those of you who installed under the back seat. Is there any rattle from the plastic?

Thank you! Ill check it out nice to see bass enclosures in the double cabs. To the OP its pretty impractical to remove the seat and remount it for the sake of an enclosure behind the seat IMHO. I have a shallow mount 13" JL Audio box that Ive used in my 2010 Regular Cab and love it. Would love to slide it in if a better way is found.

It hits more than what any one over 30 needs, the neighbor might not complain but I definitely still have room left on the vol bar with the factory head unit.

The rattle question was in regards to the box that is nestled in the storage box. How buildn stated.

    West side,

No rattle, the Pioneer box fits snug, actually had to cut the cargo box a little bit to get the sub in nice and tight.

Under the Seat I have the cargo box and I would like to retain the extra cargo space, that's the whole point of the post. To see if anyone has been able to retain that cargo space and also be able to install a sub.

    Matthew,

No link since I designed it and had a Best Buy tech install it.

Check out my profile page for the list of components I had installed.

I wanted to retain the stock head unit but I replaced the stock amp with an Alpine and I found the low profile 10” sub through the Pioneer website.

Back in the day I had window shaking sound but now that I’m older I just wanted something affordable and rocks. The 10 thumps enough to rattle my review mirror and my kids butts when they sit in the back.

My total investment installed was $900.00

I have a 2019 Tundra Limited Edition (Double Cab) and have been trying for days to find a sub that will fit behind the seats. No luck, nobody has one.

So, I'm getting a sub that fits below the rear driver side seat\middle seat. A Kenwood P-XW804B (8" sub)
    https://www.kenwood.com/usa/car/excelon/p-xw804b/

Although that's the sub I'm getting (for now...), I haven't given up yet because I want my storage space back.

I'm on a mission to try and build my own subwoofer box. I'm hoping to design my own sub box to fit in that space and just steal the parts from the Kenwood sub. I took a lot of measurements with and without the box and came up with this rough shape of the space behind the seat.

Since it's not a nice square area I've refined the shape multiple times to maximize as much space as possible and still allow the seat to fold up and down.

In Autodesk Inventor I did my best to draw a shape to fill the void behind the seats. The weird gaps in the middle are for the seat belt mechanism and the seat belts in the middle. This box will fill behind the driver side and middle seat. (The end is open so you can see the inside)

The black area represents the air volume inside the box assuming you create this with 1/2" fiberboard.

The volume (Air) inside the sub would look like this.

The 8" sub speaker from the Kenwood requires .88 cubic feet of air inside the sub box. This design only gets you .58 cubic feet. :( Oh yea, it also doesn't have a place to put a speaker yet either. I just wanted to see if there's enough space. Not yet...

It's a very small space and thus far I haven't been able to figure out a design to meet the .88cft requirement for an 8" subwoofer. It may be impossible, but I'll keep trying and post again if I get something to work.

Note: The biggest problem is when the seats fold up it moves back and closes the nice gap that exists behind the seat back. If they didn't do that, I don't think it would be such a problem.

So for now, I'm going with it can't be done... Yet... :)

    Cheers,

Have you thought about extending the box out from under the seat into the floor board?

As long as the sub was under the seat the extended part of the box would handle working as the floor board, IMO.

    And nice cad work.

I’ve thought about putting one 8” under both front seats the pioneer posted above and alpine makes one as well. Sub and amp with control. I don’t store much under the front seats. But I know nothing

I know from doing the rear seat fold down mod that all the space you have with the butt part of the seat down goes to nothing with the seat folded up. I tried to keep a thick blanket behind the seat but could not fold up the seat any longer.
