I have the rugged cover 2. will that work with tonneau brackets? it looks a lot like the factory option you can buy.

Most covers are compatible with our racks. The critical aspect of the cover, is that our Tonneau Brackets can fit under the cover, and attach to the truck.

 

Thanks. It looks like it will work. I am using the rail system on my tundra and that would be the only major concern.

 

Is the rail totally occupied by the cover? You need room on the rail for our tonneau brackets to attach.

 

No. It just has four three inch clamps that the cover attaches to.

I was waiting for Labor Day weekend hoping for a sale before I pulled the trigger on a steel max 14” high 58” long, but haven’t seen anything. Was just wondering if anyone had a promo code they could hook me up with?

 

Ordered the newer model/version of this URTC. Looks great and functions as stated with a MX4 Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover - can fully flip up the tonneau cover and clear the rack. However, one of the problems I've read about is still present (powdercoat peeling off after a month of minimal use, without mounting or hauling any loads, eventually forming tons of rust all over the rack etc.) Additionally, the rack is definitely not rated *as-is* for any dynamic use, let alone 300 lbs or a RTT. All the screws and connections that hold this rack together came loose within two months of mere road driving and required continual tightening. When taken lightly offroad, the rack damn near came apart. I think this design is close to being completed, but I would definitely wait until it is back up with the next version and peer reviews confirm these issues are addressed. The URTC is no longer available on the website, which might be a sign that I got an experimental run of this, so perhaps the next version is being re-designed. If that is the case, you will definitely want to wait until this one is straightened out before you shell out ~$1500. For reference, the URTC rack with two top bars and two side bars (4 total) was used in my system. Overall, pretty disappointed in this not-so-cheap rack system, especially given the recent reviews of Voodoo's other racks.I also want to add that I had read mixed reviews about their customer service, but the reviews stating their disappointment are starting to hold more water as the response I was given from Voodoo was "powdercoating is not armor and go buy some loctite and semi-gloss paint".

I don’t know the guy, but it sounds like he has valid concerns with the rack he paid good money for, and that it going to be your response?

Definitely more hesitant to spend my money with you now.

Seems like the same story that multiple people had, and even reported on BBB.com....a product lacking in some form or the other and you telling the customer "too bad".

 

I’ve abused my rack for over a year and 20,000+ miles with no issues at all. All nylon nuts are still tight and nothing’s rattled loose after hundreds of washboard miles. No issues with the powder coating either. Very happy with my decision!

 

I don't doubt your experience with that rack you have. I am sure there is a reason the majority of reviews are positive, and your racks probably in that majority. However, the rack I purchased is this one below. I am just sharing my experience on a whole with this particular rack, which I'm under the impression is relatively new/uncommon. At the end of the day, defect or not, I paid a significant amount for a disappointing product that won't stay on my truck.

 

Sounds like most of all the VooDoo rack complaints (BBB, Tacoma Forums, etc.) are due to rust. To get rid of the headache and loss of sales due to bad reviews, have you ever thought about moving to aluminum only? I've been in product sales for many years and I think you could benefit from this. Just a thought.

 

We have no issues with rust anymore. We haven't in years.

 

@kBV, have you looked into some sort of USGI jerry can mounts? Something that can hold a water or gasoline can securely to the rack?

 

is possible to modify my retrax to work with this rack? Have mx pro

 

It will work with your cover without modification.

Any pics of the no drill used in combination with a tonneau and tonneau brackets? I'm trying to understand how they'll work with my bakflip mx4.

 

I don't know if I have pics of that, but you need to take the cover off, then install the brackets under it, and put it back on.
