When I got my backflip bed cover, it came with some cheap aluminum drop plates so the bed rail wouldn't hit the cover. I'm afraid if I ever actually put some pull on them, it'll just bend those plates.
Has anyone made a more robust drop plate?

Seems like something a local fab shop could make with some thicker steel fairly easily..

Might end up having to go this route.

I would think it would be easy to fab some up with some flat stock from Home Depot, maybe something like a quarter inch thick.

I was originally thinking of a flat plate with a perpendicular plate welded to the back, but not sure how it would work.

I was just thinking copy the aluminum with something thicker and stronger. But anything you do to lower it will create a leverage point. A long flat plate the length of the rail will be strongest.

I bought this dropdown kit for my rails. I even snapped one of the bolts putting it in. I don't know why they made it from aluminum. When I received mine, it looked like it was made be a 3 year old. Scratches and burrs all over.

Yes it is. I'm going to check with local shops about making steel for mine.

I used a metal bracket from Home Depot but it’s not thick enough. They start to bend when ratcheting the straps

I thought the same thing, but I've discovered that they are actually pretty damn strong once they are installed.
