    Hi Everyone,

Looking for some input here. We are looking at downsizing to likely an Outback or something economical but still fits the family. The first dealer I went to offered me the paltry sum of $30,000 on trade in. Hoping maybe someone out here has a similar truck and recently has gone through this, or even better works at a dealer. What do you think its worth on open market and on a trade? I know the trade scenario depends on what I am buying etc, but ballpark helps. Haven't been to Carmax yet...

    2017 Tundra Crewmax 4x4 5.7L non-flex SR5
    27,600 miles
    SR5 Upgrade package
    TRD Off Road Package
color matched handles and mirror caps
    SSO front bumper
RAGO Ditch light brackets and Pro-Comp lights
    TRD Pro Grill
275x70R18 BFG KO2s, only about 8000 miles on them
All service done at Toyota, no lights or warning, and honestly it is very very clean.

Welcoming any thoughts or opinions. I owe $27,502 as of today.

$30K does seem super low for a 2017. My 2016 was worth $32K at the end of my 3 year lease. So being 1 year younger, yours should be more than that, maybe around $35.

Thanks. See this is more what I was expecting. I was even ok with $34K even on trade, so walked out and went home. Just looking at Autotrader within 200 miles of LA, there are 20 trucks all priced between $36k-$38k retail in same trim.

Granted the Subaru was sticker $36,837 and discounted to $31,088 for 2019 clearance. So there is probably little margin left in the Subaru. But still...

    Heres the truth.
KBB and NADA are guides and slow to react to current market conditions.

    Easier way to look at it;
-The accessories are worth nothing to a dealer, might as well take'em off if you can and sell them on craigslist.

One can buy that truck new as a 2019 for $38,200 (11-12% off MSRP plus 3,000 rebate).
28,000 miles worth of miles at 15 cents a mile = 4,200 in depreciation.
-This leaves a retail of about $34,000 if it has zero scratches or defects.
-This leaves a wholesale of about $30,000 if it has zero scratches or defects.

IMO - I just purchased a 2017 with 12k miles this summer. It had a few extra factory add-ons, and I live in a different market here in Alaska. With that said, I might suggest trying to sell it privately for a few months to get more for your truck. True dealers don't care about aftermarket parts, but consumers do. I bet there is a guy/gal out there wanting to buy that exact truck. Worst case is you don't sell it, but in 2-months the Subaru you are looking at will be lower during year-end sales.

great truck, as I had a 2017 Sr5 upgrade package with 12k of suspension/wheels/tires in it and got 40k on a trade in November 2018. That does seem very low. I would take the front bumper and red hooks off though. You want it to look close to stock when going for a trade in. I would think only 10 months after mine wouldn't drop you down 10k.

I say keep it if you can. When I was in CA in 08 it was cheaper to buy a Mazda 3 then it was to put gas in my 97 Chevy p/u. Gas was close to $4 a gallon. Gas prices are going way up again in CA. I don’t know your situation but a cheap little commuter is an alternative. Just use the truck when you need a truck.

I totally agree, but it is also a space issue. We don't have parking space etc. for another car. Between payment, gas, and insurance, we are looking at $300 a month. Also, have a new baby, so child care is adding up quick!

Well it worked out. Traded it today. A totally different dealer gave me a $33,000 trade and dropped the selling price of the Subaru $1000. So I'm happy and financially it worked out pretty well all considering. I must say the interior on the Outback Limited is night and day nicer, but losing 206hp was definitely noticeable! Thanks for the input. I still have some parts to sell lying around, so I can recoup some more funds.
