I have 2017 tundra and when I was installing my suspension I noticed grease on my frame. I inspected the axle boot and notice a very small slit next to the clamp. Any suggestion on patching the slot, don't really feel like dealing with the dealership because they probably just blame the lift.

I'm gonna order the boot and put some black rtv on it for now. Hopefully it seals until I am able to tackle this job.

before buying go to the dealer and make the claim, you should cover the warranty regardless of the suspension,

Unless the dealer can prove it was caused by the suspension work you did it is warranty.

Took it in to the dealership and they said it looks like something hit the boot, so they can't warranty it. I already ordered the part and just gonna do it myself

Crazy that they are taking that stance. Warranty until proven guilty if within the 3/36.

Ya key word "looks" like something hit the boot. Yeah and you "look" like you're not an asshole. At this point maybe it's better they don't touch the truck. When work can be done myself I always do it. I haven't even used one free oil change.

    Good luck OP

I'm running into this same scenario now. I replaced my stock suspension with some TRD Pro Bilsteins, double-checked everything on a week by week basis for a while, then yesterday I noticed some weeping on the spindle and grease coming out of the boot. It also "looks" like something hit the front of the CV boot strap, so I don't know what my chances are for the dealership to fix it. Guess I'll be taking it in to see what they say...

Did the dealer replace your suspension? The dealer did not warranty the CV boot.

I ended up using some black RTV seal and it’s still holding up. I bought the boot, just in case it starts leaking.

I did the suspension install myself - and was pretty sure we were careful with the CV boots and abs/brake lines and everything. I'll be taking it in tomorrow morning to get it looked and and cross my fingers that they're cool about it...

That’s funny! I was just thinking why wouldn’t something like rtv or liquid tape work. I’ve even thought about doing something like that with ball joints and the slip joint on the back of the transmission. Just using a needle on the grease gun to fill it back up and then sealing the hole with RTV or something similar.

When you replace your CV boots you might want to look at the SDHQ CV boots. That's what I did and you can tell the difference from the OEM ones. They are a lot more flexible and just overall better quality than stock.

That's a good call. Their boot replacement kit is about the same price as OEM, just without the grease... but they're right up the road from me, so that's probably just a wash in shipping for me.

I suppose if the dealership tells me the CV boot repair isn't covered I'll just have to look at other options...

Level sequoia wheels I like factory mods don't care to much for aftermarket
I mean iv work at Toyota for 5 years and seen them come torn right out of the box several times so I don't see why they can't warranty it we do

Yep, these guys at my dealership were totally cool about it and did all the work under warranty. Pretty awesome. Waiting on my keys and I'll be heading home with a fresh CV boot

Can't believed this is still and issue... it's 2020, truck was drop at the dealer because of this exact same issue... some grease on the boot o_O returned home run a search and what are the odds... I'm here reading about the same issue... :facepalm:Got a call some minutes ago, dealer rep saying they will check if it's covered by warranty... those damn boots are FRAGILE!! Aside from SDHQ any other good replacement options?

    PS. got an OME lift

Well... Dealer said the tear could have happened from something hitting the boot therefore warranty department refused the replacement :facepalm:So I tell them 'are there scratches or physical evidence that lead us to thing there was an impact?' to what the rep responds 'No, but the place where the boot sits it's fairly exposed ' Fu&#%$ing morons!!!! If the component (any component) it's exposed wouldn't make sense to have stronger materials???

This boot issue it's clearly either manufacturing or material defect!

Dealer says they can replace it (upon payment) and obviously it's more than a normal amount for the service. I'll just get 3rd party boots and get this repaired at my cost, it will be even cheaper!

Why should I pay more money to the dealer for the same cheap ass boot?? :argue: Chances are will happen again! Same conditions, same result!
