I agree. We need to lift up our LEO's and let them know what they mean to the community.

Our new Mayor is just outstanding on so many different issues, but today he just rocks.

It's great to see the Springs support LEOs. Unfortunately the Springs is probably one of the few front range cities left that would do such a thing. Props to the Mayor.

    RIP CSP Trooper.

If you see flashing lights -- MOVE over!!
Trooper was on scene this afternoon investigating an accident (wearing his green reflective vest) and was struck and killed by a motorist (food deliver truck carrying a trailer)
Driver will be arrested on charges they deemed necessary (and should be!)

    http://kdvr.com/2016/11/24/fatal-accident-closes-northbound-i-25-at-highway-7/

This one hits home..my buddy (who I'll be riding with next week) was first on scene prior to the accident and beat the living hell out of his patrol vehicle to get there before an accident occurred ..unfortunately, everything he did (including laying out spike strips, trying to shut down lanes, etc) to prevent an accident - happened in front of him. When he was taking the pulse of the passenger, the passenger died on him...he's doing ok and still beating himself up a little, but called me a few minutes ago to "debrief". Sometimes all you need is an ear and support to follow.

It's unfortunate incidents like this, that the public doesn't see behind the scenes and still have a negative perception on our law enforcement. I guarantee you most who criticize law enforcement, cannot do what they do. Imagine going from this call to some bs neighbor dispute..as a LEO you have to be able to have the "switch" to go from that call, and handle some neighbor dispute while taking verbal blows if you do not do what one party expects you to ...in the meantime you are still dealing with this mentally.

I know I'm ranting here, but I just want people to see what you have to go through at times...so if you want to yell at an Officer- remember to take incidents like this into thought and place yourself in their shoes.

This is becoming a serious problem. What is this, 3 Colorado State Patrol officers now in 1.5 years killed on traffic accidents? May his family find peace.

I shared your FB link Sean for the GoFundMe page for this officer.

This one was very horrible. The passenger died at 19 years old, and the younger driver will be scared for life. The POS driver that was driving on the wrong side of the highway made some really shitty decisions that involved alcohol. I just cannot tolerate this kind of behavior.

A couple years ago, you may have read about a driver committed suicide by driving down the wrong side of I-25 and went head on with a Semi. This happened right in front of my work. I do not know what it is about the stretch of I25 in El Paso county from Monument to just south of Fountain, but there are at least 2-4 deaths from people being ejected from not wearing seatbelts.

Another incident like this, one of our group friends hosted a family moving from Hawaii and his wife was a teacher at Fountain Valley. Her husband decided to get drunk and go down the wrong side of I25 in Colorado Springs. He killed himself and the driver he hit. Just really piss poor decisions. Sad thing, the friends he was out with was getting him a taxi and it was on the way. He left the bar and just took his car...rest was told.

Not sure what in the actual fuck goes through someone's mind to say "hey, let's go the wrong way on the freeway tonight" how hammered do you have to be to not be able to see you're going the wrong way?- on a freeway at that!

It is crazy Sean. In a moment, decisions can change many people's lives forever.

Bad things happen to good people. One DUI in a lifetime is never acceptable, but sometimes having two quick beers at the local pub can get you busted. The really sad thing is how many times did someone "get away with it" before getting caught?

Drove to the Springs and then to the Castle Rock CSP..dropped off flowers and a card...told them I'm sorry for their loss and got a hug...I walked out-just too damn sad there. I'm coming back with food for them after dinner here.

I feel so bad for the high schoolers that lost a friend so senselessly. I still can't understand why it's so hard to not drive if you are going to drink! Stupid decision with deadly consequences.

I agree Erika. In today's world, we have access to these awesome things called cellular phones. On these phones, unless one is still rocking a 90's flip phone, are things called Apps....

I personally use the shit out of Uber. My vehicles aren't getting door dinged, I can have the drinks/good times with friends, get home safely and do it all over again for really cheap.

Drinking at a bar to me is like eating out at a nice restaurant. If you can't afford to tip the server, you really shouldn't be dining out. Kinda like not being able to afford a cab.

For me, I have a 2 drink limit per night before it is no drive time. So that usually is a 4-5 hour period, 2 drinks total in that time frame to keep my BAC below .04 so I don't run into Driving While Impared offense. When I had my Class A CDL, I just didn't drink socially since a .04 was a DUI (for me, that was one beer).

This is kinda weird, but I have used these calculators in the past, and it is very interesting to see what can put you over the limit for driving.
    http://celtickane.com/projects/blood-alcohol-content-bac-calculator/
Most of the time, when having a house party I test this out since I'm not leaving. I feel fine even when I can calculate that I am over .08 BAC. This is probably why there are so many of these unfortunate tragedies every day.

If I'm driving, I babysit my beers for a while and stick to light beer or Coors Light. I can still be social- just smart about it. It's not worth the risk, or the risk of anyone else.

Yep Chris, there is no excuse anyone can give to justify drinking and driving, especially with services like Uber being available. And you are so right, if you can't afford to pay for a cab, keep your ass at home!! I think what makes it so disgusting is the perp is usually never hurt; it's always someone innocent, going about their day and just like that, their life or lives are changed.

Hell yeah, and you should babysit your beer for more reasons than that. People are getting drugged now at bars and robbed.

    For sure.

Another motovational thing for me is my wife of 15 years (holy crap time flies) once told me this "I will come pick you or your friends up at any time if a ride is needed. In the event you get a DUI, don't come home...ever."

My little lady doesn't do idle threats, so I best just not test those waters. She has picked up me and some of my friends on several occasions.

I tell people "which taxi would you like to go home in? The yellow one, or the black and white one?" Usually they straighten up.

    I use something similar....

It is sad when one looks back and reflects on what driving under the influence does.

    4 friends died before graduation

3 friends died after graduation within 4 years

I didn't lose any while fighting a war in Iraq. Kinda sad when you think about that.

Kinda morbid when you think about it. Ones whole objective is to kill more of the opponents before they kill you.

We are just kicking our own asses from within.
