    <<<<<<<Updated 10/17 @1730 >>>>>>>

    See below for changes due to "group think":

    When: Oct 18-20, 2nd Annual (Fall) Anza Borrego trip. Meet at the Scorpion at 0900.

    Groups based on experience...ish. I’m leading the Beginner Group; @Porschetech29 and @eccracer104 [/USER] have offered to lead the Advanced Group(s); and @osidepunker will lead...the BASTRDs/SGU/LT/BaoFung-superfan group. Specifics below are for the Advanced Group. Beginners will do a variation of the same thing, with slight deviations to allow more time to cover certain sections. We'll try our best to get a group photo at the beginning and meet up again for lunch at Truck Haven. We did roughly the same thing last year and it was a great time. Thank you to @Spvrtan (Kris), @Porschetech29 (Francis), and @osidepunker (Alex) for helping put this together!!

    Details:

    Friday: For those coming from far away places, consider driving out Friday night and camping at Palm Canyon, Culp Valley (dispersed), or Tamarisk Grove. These spots will put you less than 30 mins away from where we're meeting Saturday. I had planned to join you, but can't this year.

    Saturday:
    [0900] Meet at scorpion statue;
    introductions and chat; gas up beforehand in town if you need to. NOTE: the Borrego Days Parade starts at 10:30 so some streets in town may be closed. Last year it wasn't an issue, but just in case.
    [0930] Depart; head East towards Fonts Point (air down at Fonts Point)

    Group Leader's Call, but other trails may include:
    • Calcite Mine
    • Short Wash
    • Ella Wash
    • Arroyo Salado
    • Tectonic Wash
    • Gettysburg Wash
    [1200] All groups converge on Truckhaven 4x4 training grounds for lunch and to play around on optional obstacles; if people need to gas up, there's a station a few miles East.
    [1400] Southwest through various open washes and other trails; along the way we'll hit a few stops such as the Pumpkin Patch, Shell Reef, and Devil's Slide
    [1700] Meet up at The Cove joint camp spot; dinner!
    [2000] Optional night run to Blow Sand and find some jumps for the LT trucks :boink:

    Sunday:
    No set timeline but I would like to start around 0900 latest. I'll leave it open-ended based on what the group wants to do but in general the plan is to head South toward Split Mountain and into Fish Creek. From there we can do a few short hikes (wind caves, mud caves) if the group wants. The plan for this half-day is to continue heading South and eventually exit toward the 8 (Interstate), which means we'll be going up the Diablo Drop-off. For those headed north (LA/OC/IE), it's your call whether following us to I-8 makes any sense for your drive home.

    Francis' Group:
    @Sunnier
    @Pinay
    @Porschetech29
    @Porschetech29 Sequoia buddy Jon
    @JDL17CM4x4
    @TheFreshMouse
    @Jackjack (aka "I do my own stunts.")

    Mike's Group (may combine with Francis' if conditions allow):

    @eccracer104*
    @eccracer104 Patrick??*
    @eccracer104 (Colton)*
    @dusted_tundra*
    Green FJ Richard*
    @Bannock452*

    Sam's Group (The FNGs):
    @sdde4n
    @Pbear1454
    @alwzdfiant
    @TwistedTad
    @08_tundra
    @nishibot
    @Marty McFly
    Mike from AZ
    Jeep Gladiator! Dave K.
    @bobwalk2002
    ~~~~~~~~~Group Full~~~~~~~~~
    Said Sam: Some pretty experienced folks have weaseled their way into my group, which is awesome because for the true newbies we'll be able to give you different perspectives on things without (hopefully) overwhelming anyone. We'll cover comms and airing down, as well as various tips along the way. My only goal is to meet up with the other group for lunch so we can take our time. Our group will likely have little ones on board so frequent bathroom breaks can be arranged if needed. I am also aware that there are at least two very new trucks in our group and I will do my best to avoid pinstripes...but no promises.
    Alex aka @osidepunker ' s Group:
    · Dave aka @Vizsla
    · John aka @jc153
    · Warren aka @831Tun
    · Matt aka @Stewie
    · Bruce aka @papasmurf
    · Jeff aka @DividedSky
    · Jimmy aka @01erionracing
    · Matt fka @xxxxx
    · Joon aka @joonbug
    Meet the Tundras.com group at 33.284036, -116.369963 at 0730hrs. Run various trails in Ocotillo, random POIs etc. I’m just gonna wing it, I’m not planning rigid routes. We’ll end up at the 4x4 playground at noon to have lunch with the Tundras.com group. Then we’ll head south and make our way to Superstition. Dinner on the trail at Superstition around 5 or 6pm. Then night run bomb along the rr trax.
    Advanced group will probably do some of the following or all: Calcite Mine (short/moderate crawling trail), "secret Truckhaven stuff", Truckhaven waterfalls (crawling), the notches, some arches you can drive under, Truckhaven training grounds, Blowsand Hill, Devil's Slide, and of course some wide open sections to open up your truck on the throttle.
    We can cover Sandstone Canyon (rock sections) and others (mostly tourist things like the mud caves) in the Southern part of the park on the way out the second half of the trip.
    Clarify for those watching this thread what qualifies for the advanced group.
    One can have "limited" actual time on dirt and yet more than capable rig (mid-travel) but just haven't yet had the opprotunuty to open up and get fast or up rocks or get on 'technical' terrain.
    haha, riiiight; nothing in Anza is too nutty that it’d be an issue; i’d say self-identify with whichever group you want
    The easy group will likely be mostly 2wd-able.
    Day 1: We’ll cover Lower Coyote, Fonts Point, truckhaven, possibly combining the groups for lunch (??), then separating again for some higher speed stuff and devil’s slide on the way to camp.
    Day 2, Split mtn and some of the more touristy stuff (e.g., mud caves, , slot canyon, wind caves, etc.). All tentative until we get a final head count.
    For those that didn’t participate last year, Sam is very right: it’s hard to find anything too hard in Anza-Borrego. The hardest bit last year was Calcite mine, and no one that tried had any problem. Also, I was the only one that drove a 2WD (and, to be fair, my 2WD wants to be a 4WD :rolleyes:).
    We all had a great time; the newness of the routes made it fun, interesting, and— for those of us that didn’t know what lie ahead— felt challenging enough to more than satisfy. @Challenger1 and @Pinay, I can see you both doing really well in Kris’ group. Anyone newer to off-roading, or that hasn’t done any suspension upgrades, I suggest you follow Sam. He’s a good spotter, has done a lot of exploring these last couple of years— plus he gives fun and informative local history lessons over the radio! :drevil:
    Either run will be great fun!
    Come on out. No one will push you to where you feel uncomfortable in your abilities. You are going to have to start somewhere and Anza/Borrego is probably one of the better places to do that. Another good option would be the run up in Big Bear next weekend.
    Definitely worthy of a day trip. Let us know if you're serious about coming out. It'd be a long day, but definitely worth it. Stock trucks should be fine. Things like skids are nice to have, but not a must.
    I have an engine skid, but will 2" lift and 33 tires be enough to tackle the harder tails?
    On this trip last year I had a spacer lift (3/1) on 33s and that was just fine. Really, a stock truck could do this stuff (Beginner Group).
    Glad you’re gonna make it. I’ll add you to the list.
    For those unfamiliar with Spvrtan’s truck, its name is Pluto and he’s on 40s!! It’s pretty awesome just to watch what he can do at Truck-haven. You gotta come see this thing!
    (My son claims to be Pluto’s biggest fan.)
