I bought a 1989 743b skidsteer about 18 years ago. Paid $5000 for it w/ 2500 hrs on it. This machine has been a blessing to me. It has saved me so much time and work. Small machine yes (5000lbs). It will only lift about 1200lbs. But I make it work for me. Over the years I've bought attachments I need. Back hoe w/stinger and bucket, clamshell attachment for extra bucket, stump bucket, tooth bucket, extended forks. I've used it for loading scrap metal, wood, pellets of bricks, moved my tower stands, tear out stumps, clean up brush, spread gravel, grade dirt, load trash and snow to. It works for me. I want to buy a bigger one but I'm one ass chewin away from retirement. Can't afford it. LOL Here's some pics

    Little update:

Damn these things are spendy!! Had to save up a bit. Lol

We have narrowed the tractor purchase down to Kubota and JD

JD 3038E or Kubota L series. Not sure which one yet. The 2501 is under the federal emissions regulations and requires no DPF filter. My concern is finally making over 25 HP diesels do a test every year like the current diesels offered in today’s truck/car market.

I have a 2011 kubota BX2360 for here in ND. Everyone in our development has mostly Kubota 23-26 HP except a few John Deere. They are very handy little units and work horses. Attachments are easy on/off. Cleaning ditches out before spring.20180302_135953.jpg 20190317_120400.jpg

I just bought a little JD 1023e with a loader and a tiller. I don’t have a lot of property but it has been perfect so far. I think most name brand tractors are good and I looked at a few. I have put 20 hours on it and considering it is a compact tractor it is a beast and does everything I need I to do. My neighbors love it to

    The choice was made today.....

    Kubota it is.

I struggled with HP ratings and what that actually meant. When I borrowed my friends BX2380, it’s rated at 22hp, and a 53cc motor. It did most of what I needed at the property, but just felt we needed a little more.

The research was on and how to make the most of what we would buy. When using the BX2380, I could barely lift half of the bucket without lifting rear tires. I also felt really unstable sidehilling. One more than one occasion I was sure the ROPS was going to be tested.

The B series tractors like the B2601/2650/3350 really caught my attention. Compact, 25-33 hp, and the 2650 could be upgraded with wheel spacers and the larger 3350 tire/wheel package. I was pretty certain on this package with rim guard (beet juice) for counterweight and all would be golden.

    A5E0F83E-FD12-434A-876F-B41942A2282C.jpg

This is the B2650 with the B3350 wheel set. Pretty sweet!!

    42366293-BEC4-4DFF-B368-FE9E4AC7094E.jpg

I talked with my sales rep again wand asked about the 3350 setup to get the higher HP. The sales rep said they don’t even ship those models out here at high elevation due to emissions issues. So I’m kind of done with these emissions issues for Teir 4 compliance. I looked into the B2650, upgrading the wheel/tire package, adding rim guard. The numbers just weren’t there. The motor produces 25 hp, with a 77cc.

This is when the salesman suggested the L2501HST. 25HP, 100cc motor (more torque), and the bigger platform already instead of trying to make a small tractor bigger. Interesting thing, the bigger L series tractor is cheaper. This month Kubota is offering some huge discounts and sales on L2501 tractors. So, this will be it:

    9E7C0FDE-7545-4657-B320-A31AD8A7A4C4.jpg 5A99AAD9-A132-4114-8C95-E02D946D40FC.jpg

    Planned mods:

    Counter Balancing- 330.00 done

BXpanded hydraulic test and adjustment kit. From what I understand, from the factory the hydraulics are set pretty low and a lot of useable power is wasted.

    69.00

Canopy kit. Seen these on CL for 100.00.

May do the wheel spacers if I feel not stable on side hilling. With 55” rear axle width and the rim guard, should be good. 150-200.00

    Cover. 50.00

Spray on liner for the foot deck. 20.00

I also just bought a L2501 this spring, with 5' rotary cutter, grader/scraper, bale spear, landscape rake, and QH15 quick attach.

I like it so much that last week I backed it up with a BX2380 with a 60" belly deck and 50" front mount snow thrower.

The L2501 has agricultural tires because most of its duty will be seen in the pastures. The BX has R4 tires because it will spend warm weather months on the lawn, but during the winter it'll need good traction for blowing snow, so turf tires were not an option.

The BX cut my mowing time in half vs my Husqvarna Z254 zero turn. Sure the ZT is more maneuverable, but it sucks on hilly ground and it can't touch the straight line speed of the BX.

Now I need to find a ground driven manure spreader.....

Love my JD1023!! That thing has paid for itself time and again over the last 2 years. I use it for everything.

Pulled stumps, drugs trees, cut a trail up the ridge for logging (20 acres of gnarly rocky wood filled terrain). Grades the drive, blows the snow, pulls posts and fences, hauls firewood. You name it.

Running turf tires and chains when needed. Looking at filling the rubber with ballast to help in the more sketchy terrain.
The 23.2hp diesel doesn’t require the tier IV emissions BS....AND it fits in my garage!!

You might also be able to have the tires flipped. Rims are usually offset, so when you flip them from one side to the other, you gain a few inches of width.

I had the back wheels on my Kubota L2501 flipped and gained 5.5" of stance, now it's a lot more stable going across off camber terrain.

I will have to look into the wheel flipping. For now, best option for me is to add wheel spacers.

I had the dealer do rim guard (beet juice) and it has been awesome. This did add ~700 lbs to my rear end, but this sure works well keeping the center of gravity lower and traction on the rear tires.

Wheel flipping is basically the same as adding wheel spacers, except you don't have to buy the spacers.

But......if you have R4 tires, flipping is not an option, you will have to go with spacers.

R4 tires are more stable though. I have agricultural tires, they are narrower and don't have a nice square platform to sit on. Before I got the tires flipped it was scary as hell in pitchy terrain.

Always wear your seat belt!! The ROPS can't save your life if you aren't attached to the tractor.

I knew you had to be a farm boy from where you're from. I have spent a lot time in New York and contrary to what everyone thinks when they hear New York, it has some of the most beautiful and vast farm land east of the Mississippi. Sounds like you have a nice spread out there and some great equipment to run on it :) I'm a little jealous
