    Any members protect their Tundras with an oil undercoating?

    Fluid Film mentioned many times on here. Several members apply 1-2 times a year where salted roads can be an issue.

    I use fluid film. Upgraded to a sprayer and gallon cans of it this year. Pretty easy to work with out of the aerosol cans so I'm hoping for the same with the air gun sprayer.

    I found with the fluid film and air sprayer that the higher pressure seams to atomize it better, at least with the cheap sprayer I have. Will usually give the truck a good underbody washing in the spring and then touch up spots that appear dry. After the initial application only small touch ups are needed in the high wash areas like a-arms, rear springs/axle and a couple cross members. The majority of the frame and underside of bed and floor pan are still protected after over a year from the initial application. Just dropped the spare tire this year and sprayed the bed support and seam hidden by the spare. The cans and spray hose are great for applying in the drain holes in the doors, removing the rubber plugs and hitting the inner/outer rocker panels, inside the tailgate and other hard to reach areas.

    There is a guy over on Tacomaworld from Granby CT that does about 3 fluid film "meets" per year at his house. Charges $50 a pop for everything non Tacoma and $40 for tacomaworld members. Great guy and you can't really do it cheaper yourself. Info is in the detailing section at tacomaworld.com

    Some vehicle owners use an old farmers trick that used on machinery that’s left outside;

    Pour some automatic transmission fluid into a wand type of sprayer and coat every nook and cranny under the chassis.

    I buy Fluid Film by the gallon and spray it on really thick prior to each winter. I use 3/4 gallon. Does a great job protecting the underside. I wear a paper suit, goggles, and a breather. It's non toxic but stinks something awful after you are applying it and I'd rather keep it off me and not breath it. I also put down a tarp as it will mess up concrete. I drop the spare and hit the spare also as well as open access to the underside of the bed.

    Do you use a gun purchased specifically for fluid film or wool wax? Got any pics of your gun. I got one and haven't tried it yet and the tip isnt adjustable at all, doesnt seem like itll work well. Also what psi do you run the compressor at when applying? I plan to do mine next month and have only used aerosol cans until now.

    Lots of cool video proof testimonials of Fluid Film on YouTube also. The stuff really does work but for people up North it almost seems like applying once a winter may not be enough.

    Do you guys also wash off the salt between snow storms or just leave it all winter?

    I ground down the tip to fit some rubber hose on it as i also made up some hoses for reaching tough areas. One hose is just an extension, the other I plugged the end and put several holes on the perimeter to kinda do a 360° spray inside frame rails, or door drains, etc. Instructions state 75-90 psi, which I can do easily, it's the volume I'm afraid of, I only have a gallon pancake compressor

    I try to hose it off at a coin op car wash, if it warms up enough I actually put an oscillating sprinkler under my truck lol. I don't trust the touchless washes with "undercarriage spray, who knows what is spraying out of those nozzles. Powerwasher works well too, but often it's not done til the weather gets better. Hence the need for something like fluid film.
    I have used aerosol cans in the past, this is my first try with a gallon and an air gun

    I use the gun in Pudge's bottom picture. I have spray at 90psi which seems to work best. I have a 35Gal 1.5hp compressor that keeps up with the fairly constant spray rate. I was thinking of doing something like Pudge did with a omnidirectional spray end to get better coverage inside the full frame areas. It's a messy job but trying to keep my 2010 going. I do run through a brushless spray and underbody flush carwash once the temp gets above freezing when the salt can start to activate. Whenever possible I fire up my pressure washer and use the rise wand and fresh tap water to clean the underside. Living in the rust belt has it's downsides and you need to fight the rust war.
