Considering a tundra

If by 'this' you mean pulling the OV, then we are in agreement.

 

When the 3rd gen was in development, Toyota went to Borg Warner to develop a transfer case as a part of their attempt to increase American parts content. Borg Warner sent over prototypes based on their Ford t-cases. Toyota experienced catastrophic failure testing them. After a few were destroyed, Borg Warner sent over engineers to figure out what the hell Toyota was doing to them. Corrections were made and now we have a new t-case.

Moral of the story? The Tundra is not built Ford tough, it is built Toyota tough!

 

Because of the American parts content? I have to assume the 2nd gen T-Case is still stronger than the Ford Borg Warner T-Case, but the new Borg Warner one is probably stronger than the prior.

 

Was wondering if anyone knows if a 2nd gen truck can have a 3rd gen front end out on it and what all is involved?

I'm ok with the second gen trucks but like that grill on the 3rd gen so much more! I know on the tacomas you can put a 3rd gen on a second but it means a new hood, lights and I think fenders too... is it the same for the tundras?

 

Yes, guys have done the swap on Sequoia 's and Tundras. I haven't done it, only saw pictures online. I would assume you will at least need all those, hood, hood bulge, grill, fenders, headlights, bumper.

My vote would be to go with a 3rd gen if you like that look. With the price difference in doing the conversion you can probably get in a 3rd gen and also get to enjoy the updated interior.

 

Unfortunately I can't afford a 3rd gen unless it's got a ton of miles on it and I don't want to do that. The question was really more out of curiousity than anything else, but thanks for the answer!!

 

Gotcha, I hear ya. Sorry I assumed if you went with a 2nd gen you were considering the conversion.

That color is definitely on the short list. I'm getting my wife's car wrapped for Christmas, and then I'll look into doing the truck. I haven't asked them for a quote yet; I'll do that when we drop her car off.
