I'm flying out to look at a truck tomorrow, but have some questions I should've asked about earlier...the truck has had one owner, has a factory installed TRD S/C and is at 52,xxx miles...what are some things I need to look at visually before signing a check over? I cannot see any oil residue or stains on the valve covers, the underside is immaculate (not sprayed over) and it appears to have been maintained by some with integrity...CarFax is great, regular service intervals, etc...no lift, or anything, just a slightly more aggressive tread on the tires then OEM...

    What are your suggestions?

    Welcome to forum...

Good thing if the valve covers are clean and free from oil residue, meaning no CAM leaks.
Check if the diff has sippage. I dont think its a big deal but wouldn't hurt to check.

Of course, test drive her and check if the engine and transmission are healthy and drives well.

    Good Luck Amigo.

Share some pics if you end up taking her home.

Thanks for the response Makoy339...I will take a look at the rear-end and make sure it's holding up and not leaking...It's at a Ford dealership so they obviously have cleaned the heck out of it...it looks terrific, but we'll see when there in person...

    I've test-driven a S/C 08 Tundra back in '08 and it was amazing; I then test drove a 2014 last weekend in regular form and I was almost impressed but it wasn't a S/C'd 5.7 so I was left...well, flacid...haha

We'll see...I have a 6 hour drive home if I end up buying it...I hope it's the right truck as I only bought a one-way ticket down there...the price is pretty fair at $32k so we'll see...would anyone recommend an extended warranty (Ford dealership offered)? The premium plan seems to cover a lot but when I look at the exclusions, it's like I'd be just giving them money for nothing...the warranty would take me to 100k miles though and I hear the radio in these rigs are sometimes okay and sometimes horrible...so not a lot fo "pluses" on the factory radio set...it doe shave the Entune Premium with Nav, etc but we'll see...

I bought my 2010 SC5.7 last Sept with 101k on the ticker for $16k and it has been very solid and well taken care of. Look hard at the engine through the front fenders for the cam tower seal leak. If it's got any oil I would probably leave it alone. With 2 previous owners and only $50k mi I would definitely give the carfax and the entire truck a good look over.

Thank you for the heads-up Deuxlatch! I will give it a very good look over prior to signing over the check. I might consider the extended warranty if they can clarify and put in writing, the agreement we will make...only if it indeed helps me out versus just paying money to pay it...thanks again...I will keep you all posted on my findings...

Beautiful color. Make sure the antenna was not broken off in the hole because that can be a bear to replace. Looks like I saw a trailer brake setup so that means it probably towed a lot so I would have the tranny flushed for good measure and not just take the word of the stealership. Also make sure that if the brakes were replaced that they used Toyota OEM pads otherwise you may get a knock when you back up from loose fitting pads. Happened to mine. I wouldn't take the warranty offered by Ford. The truck should be covered for 5 days from date of purchase to get you home. You can search online for better, cheaper policies that you can use all over the country and at multiple locations other than just a Ford dealership. Good luck

Thanks for the heads-up! The previous owner used it to tow his boat...he upgraded his boat and needed more power for towing it thus buying a new Superduty...I'll confirm the antenna and the transmission being flushed...I didn't think the transmissions were able to be opened but my experience is based off of a Toyota 4Runner with the "sealed" transmissions...nonetheless, it's important to have a happy, healthy transmission to make use of the truck's abilities...thanks again!

Very nice truck. Since the truck is past the 36k mark you most likely will have difficulty purchasing a toyota extended policy. They draw a hard line at the 36k mark but the powertrain follows the truck which is the most important stuff. Who cares if the radio craps out. I know because I dealt with the situation just a few months ago. Only thing I would be slightly nervous about are the SC injectors.

Was the SC purchased from Toyota directly and installed at Toyota? If not, anything SC related, Toyota won’t cover under warranty and it would be on Ford.

From what I understand (or have been made to understand) is the S/C was installed at 5 miles on the odometer...been on the truck since it left the factory...

Ask for the VIN, create an account on toyota and punch it in to see if it pops up on the official toyota service history. I would think that it should be in there if installed at toyota. Just a thought

I just ran the VIN and it shows the S/C was installed at 17k miles and at the time, the Cam Tower sealant/gasket (really just a sealant, right?) was redone...all looks pretty clean thus far...

looking at the video, the hood/fender gap on the drivers side is larger than the passenger side. This could be a sign of body work.
    And the A pillar gap.
Does anyone one else see this or is it just me?

Wow, that is a great sense of awareness on your part markg... I'll be sure to examine the gaps a bit more when I get there in a couple hours...the CarFax and Autocheck both show a clean report so that's neat...I've had discrepancies before with the reports so...we will see what comes of it...thanks for the eagle-eyes!

You NEED to make sure the Extended Warranty will cover the SC!!!!! I am a Service Manager at a Nissan dealership (was at Toyota for 14 years) and they will tell you "oh yea, that is covered no problem". Make sure you see it in writing. Just because it was factory installed does not mean they will just cover it, if the Extended Warranty sees any room to not cover a part they will exploit it!!!

!!!!!! Make sure you see it in Writing !!!!!!

Call the Extended Warranty company if you have to, ask to speak to a claims manager and just ask your questions. This is you protecting yourself and your investment.

I have seen soooooo many people come in and say "oh that is covered by my extended warranty" and I have to tell them it is not. They get mad, argue with us and say "no the salesman or sales-manager said it was covered", only to show them in their contract, that it is not.

    Glad to help.
Sometimes an owner will rather pay the repair than claim insurance to keep from reporting damage.

I got railed on my SC warranty. New bearings and Toyota honored it, at a local level.
Corporate then denied as it wasn’t directly purchased from Toyota, but I had Toyota install it (TRD)

Body was all tight and had VERY minimal gap differences on fenders/hood...must've been odd angles or something...they're off by 1.25 millimeters (got the calipers out)... I'm pleased and see no possible paint differences so fingers crossed!
