    The factory sub is Crappy...
Seriously, it is a small 6-8 inch sub in a plastic enclosure. Mine never really worked well and was replaced a year or two ago with 2 10" JL subs

If you are looking for a better setup, James can hook you up. I ended up replacing all the speakers in my JBL "premium" system. Sounds soooo much better now. The factory system was pretty anemic from the word go.

This is the reason I'm looking for the specs/ parameters Its seem that we might be able to get a little more from the factory sub if the enclosure is built properly and matched to the specs to the sub woofer itself. I know this might be a long shot but it's worth a try instead of dumping money into a system up front. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tt3QHRiaRI&t=99s

The audio is WAY under powered or "underwhelmed". You are most likely spinning your wheels down this hole. The best enclosure in the world will not make up for the lack of power or wattage.

As being a tinker, I like to push the limits to see whats possible. It never hurts to experiment to come up with simple solutions to complex issues.

There is no replacement for displacement. Throw in a 12" sub with a 2000 amp and let'er rip.

From a point of purely tinkering, I support this. I don't have any info to help but I'm very interested to see what you figure out. Yes replacing everything will make it sound better but it seems like this is more a curiosity for you. It's much like the small portable speakers (the good ones) but on a larger level.

Bingo. Good sound can come from cheap products, as long as the supporting items are designed well.

A member a while back claimed much sound quality improvement from having sound deadening material applied to doors, floor, roof, & back wall. All with stock audio.

The stuff works, just not sure how much with stock audio. I want to say he paid like $750 to have it done. Many members have installed DIY for much cheaper.

Yes I have looked at his stuff and he seems very reasonable on pricing. Like I stated above I'm a tinker and like to try to improve what is already there even if it means redoing it with a different product after testing. If you look at Bose they really don't use the best speakers but the design of their enclosures is what makes them worth the price.

Thx Trooper2 Sound deadening material sometimes help and can also ruin a factory system. I have knowledge this from past vehicles which forced my hand to do an upgrade.

Honestly, you can make a single 3” sub pound hard with the proper enclosure (YouTube this). I dig your idea and am watching.

I know the stock jbl system is not the best and I certainly can hear it's not great. However, I read that some people upgrade their headunit and by doing so, they got better sound from the stock jbl sound system. Is that an option vs going to install new speakers/subwoofers?

For non premium systems for sure. Many After market HU's are 50 watts x 4, stock HU is like 12 or 20 watts.

Actually installed new HU for review camera, but was pleasantly surprised with much better sound. Not thumping, but definitely better.
