Official 2020 Tundra TRD Pro thread

I should add that I was extremely underwhelmed by the sound system.. They hype it up and make it sound like it's something high end.. JBL PREMIUM AUDIO 12 Speakers blah blah... Crank it all the way up and get ready to be disappointed.. Hopefully this is corrected in the 2020. Doubtful.

 

what's the big deal about BSM and parking sensors. I'm looking to get a TRD Pro, and I currently have a 15 Jeep SRT with both of those features. I don't pay attention to BSM because I always look over my shoulder and parking sensors, I have a camera so a sensor, IMO is pointless.

 

I agree. I just came from a 2018 platinum to a 2019 TRD Pro. Honestly, the only thing I miss is the tilt down reverse side mirrors. Then a distant 2nd is the parking sensor, just because I back into my driveway. The perforated leather seats kept getting clogged with crumbs because I use my truck for work and eat snacks in it all the time. The ventilated seats are only good if you start your truck before, and it’s allowed to cool down. Since they are only ventilated and not cooled. The sound system sucks in every model. I think the pro rides better than the platinum with the fox shocks.

 

I drove both the platinum, and then the pro yesterday. The platinum feels like a significantly better overall truck than the pro. The pro’s exterior looks a little bit better. I must agree with toyoboyo, the seats may be one of the biggest deal breakers. I didn’t realize how bad the pro seats are until having experienced the platinum seats. Ventilation was nice, and honestly the seats felt more comfortable than my q7’s! They’re perforated as well, but I think the platinum’s were wider, with better padding or something. I could really see myself enjoying that seat on long trips. I know, it’s like anything, you get used to what you have after a while, but for $50k+, the seats in the pro do suck. The platinum’s interior looks/feels expensive and modern, while the pro feels like that of an outdated base model. The smallest things make a big difference in this truck aesthetic wise (stitching/materials on the doors and dash). They really should’ve built the pro off the platinum.

Passenger side seat is not even powered in the pro. My girl gave me a look when she was adjusting her seat during the test drive. No memory seats. Although the urethane steering wheel on the pro gives a nostalgic feeling, I want leather @ $50k. My first car was the original Toyota pickup ’94, and is still in the family btw, lol. I did like how the steering column and seats are powered, and tuck away to give more room for exiting/entering in the pro. The auto tilting mirror while reversing (which tbh should be on all trims), is my favorite feature because I would actually use it. I mean, I do really like my creature comforts (reverse cross traffic, sensors), but to be honest, I really am trying to force myself to go for the rugged, no frills pro, because I want to have a vehicle I can somewhat abuse and not feel bad about. But if it’s basically the same price, then I’m almost making a stupid choice. And you know what, I feel like the platinum can allow for all the rugged adventures I could hope for. Afterall it’s still a truck, right?

I think you should go drive the pro again toyoboyo, because I did not feel that the pro steering was at all stiffer than the platinum. In fact, the opposite. The pro felt more loosey-goosey and had a little more play and give in my experience. My every day car is an M4, so I’m used to a tight steering. The platinum felt more accurate and precise in its steering. The pro felt lighter more air-y, even at slow speeds as I was exiting the dealership. I did appreciate how in trucks you can drive over stuff (railroad tracks, potholes) and not worry about what damage it might do to your car, especially on these socal roads lol. The pros acceleration felt peppier, more responsive, off the line and also from rolling. I liked that, and also the sound of the trd pro, and want that exhaust.

The pro’s exterior looks better, but I don’t think it would be too hard to get a platinum to look just as good. If a trd pro double scoop hood can be added (I haven’t investigated this but I’m assuming you can?), then the only thing I’d miss is the stamped bed, because everything else can be added. I would want the blacked-out headlights like that of the pro, the TOYOTA grill, and badges blacked out as well. No chrome for me. I played with the audio system in the platinum. I wasn’t expecting JBL to sound like the harman kardon, or bose, but it could’ve been better. It would be nice if they did some tweaking though software to make this system sound more depth-ful.

You know what? I want the best of both worlds. I’m going to get a platinum, and make it my own pro. Afterall, if I plan on being inside of it for hours and hours, for years and years, I might as well spend a little more, get everything I want, and be happy. I liked the feel of the pro (gives you that king of the road feeling haha) and will be looking to make mine similar to the pro in terms of suspension and height and sound, but better tires. I’ll have to start looking to what that will even take, if it does anything to the original warranties, how much it’ll cost. I’m kind of excited that I’ve made my choice, and a little worried. I just hope it’s not going to be a bitch to get it how I want.

 

Great write up there and I'm glad to see that we agree on most points. Everything can be added and done without issue... No bed stamp, oh well. It's the one con to the Platinum's multiple pros.

The test drive took a lot of burden off my shoulders as I know what I want now. I'm definitely going to do the Platinum Pro truck. Supercharger will be installed too once it's all available for the 2020's.

The Platinum may not have as an abusable (made that word up lol) suspension, but it can be had for 3-4k. No biggie. I have a 911 GTS and can relate to not worrying about bumps, pot holes and railroad tracks... Love doing that in my 05 sequoia but it's getting old, dated and tired.

You may lose that steering feel once you slap on a PRO suspension but that could also be in the tires as the Platinum has lower profile tires.. Either way, once the stock Platinum suspension is replace it's ROMP CITY.

 

Yeah I was assuming changing the suspension would change it to a trd pro ride, but I want that, with the platinum interior lol.

 

Which color are you aiming for? I'm putting down a deposit tomorrow and placing my order for a Voodoo Blue Platinum. Hopefully they can equip it with OEM bedliner and sunroof together.. Online configurator says NO... OEM bedliner is nice because you get the TUNDRA logo in the bed.

 

The Tundra spray in bed liner is not available with the sunroof option. I tried to add it to my 2020 Tundra Platinum that I ordered, but Toyota states that it is a “weight” issue with the two options.

 

Which did you end up going for? That is also ridiculous.

That's a nice color. I think I'm going to get the magnetic grey. With everything blacked out, should look like a monster.

 

I’m sticking with the moonroof. I’ll have Line-X spray the bed liner.

If you've got the $$ to blow or if you're an impulsive spender, platinum/1794 is the way to go.

 

Anyone know of a good thread or place to start researching what parts ill need to change the suspension to that of a pro? I'm still a noob (but ill learn quickly enough). I've build a platinum with all the pertinent TRD parts toyota.com has available. Is it true you need the Muffler kit if you're going to add the TRD dual exhaust? why is that? I've also made a list of parts i want to add to make it look more like the pro. I think i just need help with the lift/suspension part. Everyone say stay away from the TRD suspension, but all the youtube reviews i find for the pro say its a great suspension. Why is that? If someone could point me in the correct direction, it will be appreciated. I've attached what I've come up with so far, Thanks.

 

I would just price out some Fox shocks online instead of the ones that come on the pro. Toyota is asking way too much and you can get even better for less money

 

I'd pass on all those TRD parts because you can buy them all at a huge fraction of the MSRP price. You could save well over a grand. They're all super simple to install with either the simplest of tools or no tools. Only thing I'd order is the TRD brake pads as those require more extensive labor.

Oh yeah for sure, I'm just trying to get a list going of all the stuff first, learn what i need, rough prices, then ill shop. I know Toyota and the dealerships are in it to make theirs too.

 

I also want that bedliner with the tundra logo. Any chance we can get that done after getting the truck? or is that from the factory?

 

I think the tailpipe kit is the full exhaust and the muffler kit stops at the mufflers. I could be wrong. I would go just worry about the Pro grille and maybe wheels. Otherwise there are lots of great suspension options out there. I’m not sure if anyone is even selling the new Pro suspension yet the way you could buy the Bilstein version.

As far as the bedliner you would have to inquire with a Line-X dealer or similar to see if they could replicate the Toyota logo in there.

If you want the luxury fit and finishes go platinum. If you want off road feel and finishes go pro. That’s the way I have justified my decision. Hope I’m right. ‍♂️

 

I ordered a 2020 Tundra TRD PRO in Black it has an arrival date of Sept 14-24, it is one of the first 10 coming to Alberta.
I already purchased a 4" Readylift lift kit, Readylift TRD Skid Plate kit, Fuel 20x9 +20 Wheels for 35" Nitto Trail Grapplers, Toyota Fender Flares with Black Rivets and a Backflip F1 Tonneau Cover. 4Wheelparts had a 10% off sale that saved me $600...My Trucks are used off road daily at work so I am definitely going for ruggedness over creature comforts...
If you want both you could always buy a 802A spec Raptor for $30K more than a PRO. I have had 3 Raptors in the past 12,14 & a 17, the 17 with 802A package definitely has both but are too much $$ to beat up in the bush for work.

No the Readylift 4" uses the existing Fox Shocks. That's why I am going with that one, it also keeps your front hubs at the same outboard distance as stock so you don't get that staggered look like most lift kits.
