So my Tundra got broken into last night. The thief went up to the door with some sort of device that unlocked the vehicle before he let himself it. He tried my wife's Sienna as well, but hers is older and the device didn't work.

I spoke to a couple of security retailers, and they say that all systems these days integrate with the Tundra's manufacturer alarm. That wouldn't do any good in this case because it thinks it was unlocked by key fob.

Mine is a 2014 with normal keyed start, so it's not one of those relay devices.

Anyone have any experience on this? Video below.

I've done many security upgrades dogs warn us most of the time but aside from that we have several linked ring security devises doorbell/motion flood lights and when someone comes within range it alerts us inside and our phones go off then we can see a live view. And once the motion alarm goes off inside our dogs loose it and look out the window to see what's out there while barking...

My favorite is the viper alarm for the truck not only is there an obnoxious alarm that will sound there is a very bright glowing light that flashes letting the potential thief that an alarm will sound if the door is opened without the alarm being disabled so they will move on to easyer prey..

Our security system alerted our phones too. Slept right through it. :(

Dang it. Mabe look into getting the alert alarm for inside of your house? For the ring they are called a "chime". And mabe a dog because there is no way we sleep through the chime going off because of the dogs. Or mabe get an alarm with the flashing light? Or if your tight on money just get the flashing light off Ebay to make it look like you have an alarm? That's all I can think of hope it helps

How’s that happen? Our fobs aren’t the more advanced always listening kind with walk up entry and button start, so it can’t be mimic’d (how Lexus’ are stolen). A hack device must have and transmit the unique signal to get in a locked Tundra.

Keep nothing visible or valuable inside the truck. Install a hidden kill switch. Use a brake lock, they’re a bit of a hassle but really tricky to saw off, versus a Club where the steering wheel is cut and go. At home, setup a Wyze cam in an enclosure like the vid above, however pair it with a bright motion spotlight aimed to go off when someone approaches your vehicles.

All deterrents really, if a thief wants it, they’ll find a way, just make it harder and your neighbors an easier target.

And people want push button start trucks.

Someone comes to my house at night I turn night into day.

    Then my dog barks.

    I'm up

Howdy! Just got my first Tundra 3 weeks ago. I created my Tundras.com account just now as I wanted to say that I am sorry for your loss. Hopefully not too much damage. I feel like there is one thing victims of vehicle break-in/thefts are not realizing when it comes to securing vehicles. The possibility that an additional keyfob may have been programmed. If you ever take your vehicle in for service, there is always a chance that a shady service person will have the propper scanner equipment that will allow them to add an additional keyfob. The first thing I did after purchasing my Tundra was to hook up my scanner and check. Found 3 keyfobs programmed, but I was only given 3 keyfobs. I immediately wiped all 3 keyfobs+keys and programmed only my 2 keyfobs+keys.

I also checked my bother in-laws 2014 King Ranch and found 5 keyfobs programmed and he only had one. It's always good to check these things as even a dealership can't be trusted. From the looks of the video, this guy may have used a keyfob.

    Lost track after #1.
He's clearly got something small in his hand. He uses one hand to try the handle while doing something relatively hidden w/the other. He switches it to the other hand when he moves over to the Tundra. It has to be something simple, so I'm guessing it's a fob of some sort as well.

do you have the rest of the video? can we see face and what he's doing inside other than the obvious? it's pretty well lit once in there.

I have driveway motion sensors with an alarm inside the house. not sure how you would apply them as you are close to the street. u could mount one aiming at the space in between but if they hit from either side it wont got off. also critters may give you false positives at that angle

My wife and I both had our Toyotas broken into last fall. She has a 2017 Highlander and me of course 2018 Tundra. Both were locked (we lock them religiously at night). There was no damage at all to either vehicle so we think a similar method was used as in your case. Sorry this happened...it sucks but you live and learn. Security cameras aren't enough unfortunately.

I'm a bit of a nerd so I've considered programming an alert that would notify me via Alexa when a foreign device (thieves phone) shows up within the proximity of my house . We have castle doctrine here that extends to any private property so it probably wouldn't end well for them.

By the way.. change your garage code immediately. DO NOT WAIT. If they stole your opener, they'll be back.

Happened to me too. I was told that the device reaches out to key fob and then mimics the code. I keep my keys in a little metal bucket on counter now. Supposed to shield the signal.
Guy hit our neighbors too. 2 fords, one dodge, and a Chevy. He didn’t get I’m my Mazda or old 4Runner, gotta unlock those w a key.
At least I didn’t have to replace any glass.

You need a loud alarm in the house to wake you up. Forget the pitbull, I prefer an S&W K frame model 65, .357, as I have small hands. And being a revolver, it's KISS. Don't think S&W makes a K frame in .357 any more, so go with an L frame.

That sucks. So how do you scan the fob the see how many were programmed? I’m confused with that one and I’m tech savvy.

Had an N frame S&W 357 Highway Patrolman stolen from me almost 40 years ago. Beautiful gun, but it was a hoss. I'm into simple, 45 Colt, 7 1/2" barrel now.
