Damn, my hot rod truck scared me the other day.
While at a stop on a busy six lane boulevard waiting to make a left turn, I made a jack-rabbit start to make it through a gap in traffic and the truck just lost acceleration.
I know, it prolly was a stoopid thing to attempt what can I say.
Luckily for me and my wife, the truck finally woke up and roared across.
I had the the AC blasting and I suspect that was the cause for the lag.
This was the first time I ever noticed this with my '17 5.7.
I usually never shut down the AC when accelerating.
    Lesson learned.

It was probably your traction control closing the throttle.

    Really?
So is there any reason to have it engaged?

Most functions of traction control is like training wheels and a hindrance to me since I learned to drive without it. I disable some of it but not all of it when I drive. Doing this saved me from being rear ended a few months ago. I was at a stop sign and some idiot texting wasn't paying attention and was going to hit me so I mashed it and if I had the Traction control on I would have been Fudged. EDIT: That Auto LSD thing did it's job too despite not being a true LSD.

Could it have been that you spun the wheels, which caused the traction control to come in and limit power?

It’s always on unless you turn it off.
Press the squiggly line button once and LSD turns on. Press and hold for three seconds instead and LSD comes on and traction control off. Press and hold an additional three seconds after that and everything turns off. For some additional fun hit the tow haul button. A.k.a. beast mode. One tire fire!!!!

If your truck had black mode engaged this would never happen.

You can always get the pedal commander and never deal with this situation again.

It didn’t feel like the tires were spinning, it felt like stomping the pedal of a four banger going up a steep hill with AC on.
So, if they weren’t spinning, and had the TC been off, this might not have happened?
Or just when I lose traction.

They don’t have to noticeably spin. Just lose traction for a second, long enough for the truck to think they are and cut power. My 10 had a SC and would do it all the time. It’s dangerous in situations like you described.

Two weeks after getting my truck I was sitting at a stop sign waiting for a opportunity to cross and once it was clear, I pressed the go pedal and started into the intersection but then the rear tire caught a patch of ice and I lost throttle even though I was now pushing down even more since a vehicle was now coming and I wasn't clearing the intersection fast enough. Still not sure how I made it across without being broadsided, and from that moment on I learned that the nannies have to be off if there's any chance of icy roads.

I always have my traction control turned off. Otherwise, it just gets in the way. With all the mods on my truck, the computer doesn't know how to cope, and it can be downright dangerous. You're expecting a response and it decides to do something else. Which is usually not accelerate. Been there, don't care to go back.

Plus, no traction control means more excitement! :headbang:

A/c usually shuts off at full throttle. Does on the Tacoma’s anyways. And if you’re thinking pedal commander. Get a hp tuner instead. Can do the same thing just better and custom tune a lot more features like shifting.

    My thoughts exactly.
I was driving the other day and thought to myself "I HATE how I have no feel of what the engine is doing or how far open the throttle is."
I drove a 99 Tacoma for 8 years before I got my Tundra. I miss having a mechanical link (throttle cable) to the engine. Plus the Tacoma is a manual trans.

Don't get me wrong; I love my Tundra. Wouldn't trade it for the world. I would however trade it for a 5.7 Tundra with a manual transmission.

No, I have never messed with the traction control button.
So is is best to turn off LSD and Traction control? Can you set this up so that it stays off permanently or just every time I start up.
Any dangers in having these functions off?
