One of those days it didn't feel like I got anything done. I was tired it was hot so I didn't have much to show for today. Anyway I got the upper arm tacked together and it looks like I need to do some more trimming. The good news is the tire might clear the firewall since I pushed the wheel 1" forward. Oh and rust sucks!

What was your method of install on these? I've seen it done a few different ways. I need to do mine.

Both look the same on the description.

Mine are crooked too. I was told to try to straighten with hammer. Didn't work. Decided to ignore it.

If you have a couple big c clamps you could probably straighten them out but unless you add some new clamps they'll end up shifted again.

I've got the largest jack stands you can get from Harbor Freight, which really helps. You'll need to support the frame up as high as you can.

I take off both rear wheels, but only work on one side at a time.

Remove lower shock bolt. Support the axle with a jack and loosen the U Bolts on the side you're working on. Take u bolts off completely and pull off the bumpstop. Lower axle down and let the leaf pack separate from the axle. Use 2 larger C clamps and space them far apart as you'll need room to put the new leafs on. Tighten clamps to hold OE pack together.

Zip off 14mm center bolt nut off with an impact and pull it off as well as the overload leaf.

Pull off all the accessory hardware on the new icon leafs and then slide new leaf pack between the OE pack and axle.

My own personal trick is I actually then take the new center bolt and put it in upside down temporarily. This is because it's hard to get it in the correct way (from bottom) due to space and that all the leafs just don't line up. Get the bolt in and hand thread the nut to hold it in place. Now you can move your c clamps in towards the center pin and clamp up ALL the leafs together. As you do this, they'll stay centered (due to temp pin install). Once you clamp them up snug, remove center pin and reinstall correctly. You'll have a lot more room now.

Tighten that up, cut off extra threads, reinstall U bolts, etc. I ended up using my stock u bolts. I might reinstall the overload spring to get an extra. 75"... In which would require the longer supplied u bolts.

Some places don't have safety inspection. Utah stopped safety inspection around maybe the first of 2019 or maybe it was 2018. We just do emissions unless you live in a county that doesn't do emissions.
I'm not sure the reasoning besides people always seem to get vehicles passed by a friend anyway or they just throw their smaller tires on and mudflaps for the test or just roll their windows down to avoid failing for their dark tint.

My mechanic buddy was upset about it and I just said to stop being a Nancy and remember it's like telling someone they can't make a certain gun. Go ahead and tell them and in the end a determined guy with a metal tube, some hammers, a grinder, and a welder will somehow make it anyway. I told him this as we were driving my prerunner that only he has ever passed for safety inspection out to the desert to shoot some of my homebuilt AKs. He kinda STFU after that.

Thank god I'm in Texas. Sure some people will always cheat the system. But the majority of people take safety seriously. If your brakes or tires fails you put everyone on the road around you and in your car at risk.

I agree some states have dumb safety requirements, but most are there for a good reason.

@because_wumbo-truck I am not trying to cheat the system. I’m not gonna be driving my truck to get goet tires installed on her without insurance and registration in California. It’s bad enough I’m gonna have to drive her to the smog shop. That’s why I am gonna be fixing her befyshe gets back on the road. The previous owner never took care of her. The truck has 4 different tires. Front struts is one Monroe one original stuff like that. The brake pads before I changed them this weekend had cracks in them. So I am making this truck as safe as possible before it hits the road here in So Cal. New rubber will be on her soon

I hadn't heard of that site before. Checked it out and found a set of color matched running boards for $4.65. Either they say it was a mistake and I cancel the order or I get running boards for under $40 shipped.

I'm actually ok with safety inspections. For every person that takes care of their vehicle there are probably 2 that don't, at least once a year it's getting looked at.

We're close to the OH/PA/NY border and we get to see vehicles in all kinds of conditions. PA and recently NY require safety inspections, OH doesn't. I've seen vehicles with belts showing through the tires, hoods bungee corded shut, no rocker panels left, 1 working taillight, doors padlocked shut, etc.

That's me! haha! No one ever checks out my Tundra. Never emissions or anything. I love that.

I see something that says offroad use only, I can slap it right on without issue. :bananadance:

Amen. I don't want to live in a nanny state. If the inspections are free that's one thing. Otherwise it's just another bullshit tax.

That may be part of me not caring about it. It's $20-40 depending on the shop and only $8 goes to the state.

Iirc it's $10 for just safety and $25 for safety and emissions in TX. I used to be an inspector but they semi recently changed the prices and most closely tied registrations to inspections

I'm concerned my brute Force sliders might not hold up. They came with the leg components loose and 3 of the triangular pieces were missing. My buddy welded em up for me and didn't use the triangles. He said it shouldn't need em. But I wish he would have at least used 4 of em
