2012 TRD vs. 2018 platinum shocks and struts

I own a 2012 tundra TRD. My dad just upgraded his shocks on his Platinum 2018 Tundra. Gave me the opportunity to get his shocks which only have 5000miles. Dose anyone know the pros and cons between the years and shocks of the two years

 

I should note that I have 90,000 on my shocks.

 

Should I replace.

 

I really just want to know the specific details between the two years. We bought a 2012 the same year. Mine of course TRD his platinum. His road like a car and mine a truck. Fast forward a 6 years. He got a new Tundra. Platinum of course. But he got a upgrad because he hauls a trailer. Wish I knew the part number. But I know he just did the next upgrade. Did Toyota do an upgrade on shocks in the time period.

 

I don’t haul a trailer. I pack everything in the back. I maybe hit a trail 7-10 year. I just want to know the difference between years. Did my dad actually upgrade his shocks to my tundra or is it an upgrade from my original 2012 shocks.

 

The 2018 shocks will be an upgrade since they aren't seven years old; if you aren't interested in lifting the truck or going fast off-road they would be cheap replacements for shocks that are at the end of life anyway.

 

The stock black shocks are nothing to write home about. Just buy new Bilstein shocks if you really need new ones. I wouldn’t waste my time installing them.
