Ok, maybe I am clueless. It has been forever since I have had to replace a windshield in any vehicle for any reason really. My coworker is replacing the windshield in her 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler, and it's costing her $632.00. Is this for real, do these things cost this much? Who here has replaced their Tundra windshield, what can I expect when it's time to replace mine on my 2016?

My wife had to replace her 4Runner windshield. We only had to pay $100 because it was covered by insurance. But bill was 1,000

My windshield was just replaced for free. My cost would have been $442.

Depends what glass you use. If you want OEM glass expect to pay a lot. If you’re fine with aftermarket, you can get away with pretty cheap. I’ve had a windshield replaced on my old 4Runner for $150 including labor.

Most aftermarket windshields are much cheaper because they're not classified as acoustic glass. There's an icon of an ear on the glass if it's acoustic. This makes a big difference in wind noise that enters the cabin.

On models with TSS/adaptive cruise control, there will be an added expense for camera realignment and recertification as well.

I do GEICO glass coverage. Free if I get to it before it spreads and it can be patched with resin.

50 dollar deductible if the windshield needs replacement. I have never paid out of pocket for a windshield.

I am on my third windshield in 2.5 years. I have a $250 deductible and my insurance pays the difference on the $1200 Toyota factory windshield. My insurance company allow us to choose aftermarket or factory. When I lived in SC and FL I did not pay anything. NC requires we pay are comprehensive deductible. In fact I have an appointment tomorrow morning to have it replaced since the safelite repair did not work.

I've put in many $40 windshields in my day :D

Idk if they'll have anything cheap (or at all) for how new that jeep is though...

When I had a JKU I replaced a couple windshields and OEM was under $500. My guess is the JL has the lane departure warning etc. If you replace the windshield all the techno nanny stuff needs to be recalibrated, at least it did on my wife's Honda Pilot a few months ago. The Pilot was alomost $700 to replace but only had $100 out of pocket with comprehensive coverage

I need to replace the windshield in my 17 Tundra and I think I saw prices in the $350-$450 ranges

Usually if you tell the glass shop that you are paying cash and not using insurance the price nose dives.....the crazy high prices are simply the glass shops way of gouging your insurance company....and people wonder why insurance just keeps climbing!

So true. The car dealer paid for my new windshield. Abra Autoglass rep told me they only billed them $180 since they get so many orders from them.

They’re expensive especially My wife’s BMW X5 windshields cost her over $2k to replace but we only paid $50 it’s cover by our insurance.

I have always made sure to have glass coverage on my insurance for this reason. I have had to replace windshields 3 times. All just cost my glass deductible which is $100. Could be better but could be much worse.

More OEM vs aftermarket anecdotal thoughts: I've replaced 4 over the past decade or so. None so far in the Tundra. Went aftermarket the first three times and finally learned my lesson (after being clued in by a "windshield guy") and went OEM on the 4th. Turns out, and as I learned the hard way, the inspection process at the factory for aftermarket vs OEM is quite different. Aftermarket will pass if distortion free in a much smaller area than OEM requires. As I am rather large I don't look thru the same area of the windshield most do and so I was always finding whatever I was looking at was slightly wavy or distorted as it or my head moved. Kinda awful. OEM I've never had any problem.

Yep, in SC it's "Free", as long as you're insurance is up to date.

After having replaced several, I will always go with OEM glass because of the acoustic Factor.
