Yes it is chrome and I don't like it either. Why do these mfg put chrome in areas that it can reflect sun in your eyes. My Honda accord is the same way.

If by special you mean that she doesn’t yell at me for a full hour and then falls asleep early so I can drink beer and watch something besides murder mysteries I’m in!

The only way I can see you fixing this is by buying some new truck parts.

A man is allowed to dream every once in a while right! you might be able to find a used bezel from someone that swapped out their head-unit to one of those huge Tesla style units.

I go to sleep every night to one of those shows if I'm lucky. Other nights it's depressing TV like My 600lb life or Dr. Pimplepooper.

I hate to cash in on others misfortune but I do have my OEM JBL stereo from my 2015 platinum. I assume it's the same unit as yours. I was just gonna keep it and throw it in when I trade my truck in about 10 years, but I supposed its not doing any good sitting in a box in my basement. Lmk is you might want it, we can work out a deal

Years ago maybe 2010 I went to get an oil change at Toyota. On the vent to the right of steering wheel I had a cinnamon apple air freshener that has liquid based clipped on to the vent....I go and pick up my truck and see the air freshener upside down and liquid running down the silver paint below it and was eating the paint away so I went back inside and showed the service advisor he then talked to his manager and they sent the whole dash part to get painted at no charge but what I never understood is why someone in the shop would have even taken it off for any reason

Definitely the better option. Upgrade will be well worth it on these JBL trucks.

Be careful when applying bug spray containing DEET while in your trucks, also. I pondered and pondered what could have made some small pock marks in the trim to the left of the steering wheel- to the point of almost blaming a technician who changed my oil. It suddenly dawned on me that a few days prior I had sprayed some bug spray on my hand while sitting in the seat and must have over-sprayed onto the trim. Ate some good little holes into the finish and made a good spot for a sticker right now!

I think we may be married to the same woman.
