What’d you get on trade-in?

For those who’ve traded in their Tundra, what did you get in regards to where KBB has things? On par? Under or over?

 

I had my '16 Tundra Crewmax SR5 appraised last month that has some a number of upgrades.

KBB says $28,500 - $31,300 trade in. Both a Toyota dealer and CarMax offered me $27k.

 

Yikes.

 

How many miles?

 

I got 22k for my 08 with 68k miles 2 years ago. I kept my rims and new tires and put the stock ones on.

 

It really Depends on the condition. You might think it’s perfect but dealerships may not.

 

I’m thinking of going to Carmax first to know what my floor is and go from there.

 

Was this from a dealer or Carmax?

This is pretty to where my truck falls. Is yours an SR5 Upgrade with nav? Any other accessories?

 

No nav. Just the upgrade package with 38 gallon fuel tank and power driver seat. Bedliner and running boards. No aftermarket anything

 

Drivetrain is a big one you left off. I think people on this site assume everyone owns a 4x4 but I see lots of 4x2s around DFW.

I was under, KBB said like 41 when I traded and they would only go 37. I checked with a few dealers even Ford, they were all about the same way. Said it was market value. I felt like a looser, lost 13k for 35000 miles. That was a mint 16 Platinum.

I'd recommend checking out Carvana. I sold my Tacoma to them this month when I purchased my Tundra. They offered $3000 more than Carmax and $1000 more than the dealership. It was a very easy process... took maybe 10 minutes to fill out the paperwork and for them to load it up on the flat bed.

 

Truck had 60,900 at the time.

Take your Tundra into the dealer for a trade in on the last day of the month to get the best deal. At night. In the rain.

 

Dealers will bundle your trade in with your purchase discount they will move some numbers around but at the end they will either give u more for trade in or more discount on new ride they are allowed a certain amount of wiggle room

 

Don't forget the income tax implications of lower sales tax write off if you trade versus selling yourself. That is if you are able to itemize.

 

How many back and forths did you have with each dealer? I was offered $4500 for my 2008 Tacoma with 200k miles by several dealers. It took quite a few emails, each time with them coming up $1000 or so until I finally traded it for KBB value which was $8000. The first number they throw out is to see if you're a sucker.

 

Very true. For all they know you could be in a hurry to sell and had you bit on the first offer, that’s an extra $3500 in their pocket.

 

KBB is a waste of time.. they dont give KBB unless they are screwing with the sales price on the new vehicle.
Manheim price is what dealers go buy, so if your trades is selling for 10k at Manheim, they will offer 6-7k. They figure if they cant sell your trade they can dump it at auction and still come out ahead..
They factor $1000 for auction fee and transport then add 2-3k for profit...

Seems like a really good deal on the trade.
