Tires Rubbing

So I've got a 2016 4x4 Tundra with fenders flares on it. I've got 275/60 r20 nittos on the truck. I installed some 2" wheel spacers to bring the tires out a bit since I feel like it looks a little strange with the tires so far under the truck. After doing this, the tires rub a little bit on the plastic fender well. If I take the little mud flap off the front, it stops it from rubbing on flat ground. So it won't take much to get enough clearance to actually take the truck off-road.

Does anyone know of a way to possibly reposition the plastic so I don't have to cut a section out of it?

 

heat it up with a heat gun. people do it all the time

 

Heat gun to reform it or un screw and push the liner in I cut mine kinda wish I used a heat gun now since mud and debris gets in that opening

 

I thought about trying to push that liner forward. I didn't want to cut it for the reason you stated. I do take the truck through some mud. I hadn't thought about the heat gun though.

 

Heat gun works good, just be careful, you can heat it up too much and as soon as you apply pressure to make clearance, you'll push a hole right through it. Ask me how I know .

That's good to hear. What all was involved in you moving the liners forward? I saw that it's a couple of screws mounting it to the bumper, is it as simple as taking those out and shoving it forward, popping some new holes in the plastic, and being good to go?

 

Pretty much what you just said. I basically moved the liner forward enough to clear the studs on the lower bumper/fog light brackets on each side and reattached/bolted the liners back onto the frame utilizing the original mounting hole location.

I cleared my 275/65/20s using this method; very easy to do. But, when I "upsized" to a 295/60/20, I needed more room and had to use the heat gun.

 

I'm running 295/70/18's with no clearance issues.

 

Hmm. With my tires being almost 11 inches wide, plus the 2" wheel spacers, I'm really pushing 13 inches total width there. So moving the plastic may not help me then.

 

Yeah, you may need to do a little grinding too, to get decent clearance.

If you truly want to get anal, once you relocate the liners......if you still have a gap where the liner used to provide a decent seal where water, dirt, mud, can get in........buy some 1" wide weather stripping to help seal. Drill some holes and use heavy duty (non Harbor Freight) zip ties and use the ties to stitch everything together. I did the same technique on my friends snow mobile (machine)in Kenai AK after he flew over the handle bar's and fracked up the engine cover when his 250+ lb body landed on it after running into a snow covered buried barbed wire fence at 40+ mph. Still LOL over that.He landed about 40 feet in front. Heh heh. I still remember what he said after I said "Are U OK?" He said..."REALLY??"

 

I can't get it to fit without doing some cutting. I want to avoid that. Thanks for the info though man. You've been a big help.

 

I did have to do some trimming. I'd trim a little until I got the fit I wanted.

 

Just trim it! I didn't want to trim either but it's not bad!!!!
