    Howdy All,

I'm in the process of a suspension build and would very much like some advise.
The truck will see high speed dirt roads, moderate crawling, mainly for hunting access in BC.
Performance and reliability are my priorities.

    This is the build:

    -295 / 70 / 17
    -Camburg "Moog" UCA
    -Revtec 1" diff drop
-Fox 2.5 resi adj 0-3" front
    -Fox 2.5 resi adj rear
-Icon RXT leaf pack on option 2 ( I will have at least 250# in the bed)

    My questions:

    1) Are limiting straps needed on the rear end ?
    2) Do I need to relocate / lengthen the rear brake and abs lines ?
    3) Any other advise or recommendations to protect my investment and get the best performance?

    Thanks for reading.

Limiting straps are for Long Travel suspension and usually your kit will specify if you need to lengthen or relocate you brake lines. Normally if at all, the rear gets relocated or raised in the same spot above the axle

I have a similar set up, except icon shock, same rxt pack and rxt bumps.
I tried to run it with out a brake relocate but a couple of those lines looked like they would be too tight when I flexed the rear. So I bought this and it seemed to give it enough play, Also might not be a bad idea to do a diff breather relocate to behind your tail light if you’re crossing water while hunting.

Perfect, thanks for the link and info. Yup, diff breather is happening day 1, cheap insurance. Are you running your RXT leafs on option #2? If so, how do you like it?

Option 3. But I’m heavy. Decked drawers full of tools and a shell. The rxt’s are perfect for me. Truck is a little high in the rear w/o any additional items in the rear but when I’m loaded and living in the sticks during hunting season it’s perfect.

Perfect, great to know. I’m hoping to get my canopy and RTT set up this winter and will likely go to option 3 then. Sounds like you’re up to similar things with your rig. Looks mint!

I’d change out front and rear bump stops. They are cheap. Other than that have fun with the install you will love that setup

I would call icon and tell them what shock you have and ask if it has enough travel.

When mixing components it is always a good idea to take all the gas out of the shock, strip the spring down to the main leaf then cycle it all the way up all the way down. Make sure the shaft has the travel

    Thanks for sharing your experience.
I’m in the middle of deciding which option to go with.
I’m also pretty heavy. Shell. Roof rack. Decked loaded.
Looks like I’ll be going with option 3.

I don’t think the brake line extender is required but it does helps when you’re installing the rear. It’s a few bucks, just get it. And the RXT pack supposedly gets more travel with RXT shocks so you might look into how Fox pairs up with it. Last, get bigger tires. You’ll have to trim a little to make them fit but you won’t regret it.

Thanks for the info. I’ve also heard that the RXT rides higher than advertised. Apparently Icon shocks get 11.3” travel and Fox 2.5 9.3” so there is a potential to “top out” the Fox 2.5 with the RXT leaf pack. Currently contemplating my back end options. As for tire size, 33.5” is the sweet spot for me and my applications, a lot of which includes running aggressive chains, driveline reliability and longevity. Still appreciate the 35” nudge. ;)

I have the ICON 57720PBR rear shocks w/ cdcv they allow up to 10.33" of travel..
Pairing it up with the RXT leaf springs I'd be missing out on about an inch of travel and top out as well.
    Hopefully I dont have issues.
I'll report back once i have more time with the combination.
I will be upgrading to the RXT shocks in the future once these have more miles on them.

just get the Coachbuilder or Old Man EMU abs/brake line relocation kit and you will be fine.. You most likely wont need it but for the cost it provides a little bit of security for little money

Thanks for joining the party! I’ll premise this by saying I’m not a professional at all, but learning lots. I’m leaning towards a softer RXT leaf pack option (1) that offers less lift and take up the softer spring rate “slack” with compression dampening and air bumps. This will hopefully keep my 9.3” travel Fox 2.5 in their happy lift range of about 1.5” or less while I wait for my overlanding bed kit. I do realize there are custom length options with Fox, be it a full rebuild or longer eyelets / bumps, but I’m hoping to avoid that route on this build. This could all be avoided by going with the Icon RXT shocks as opposed to Fox 2.5....... but I already have 2.5 resi adj, soooooo. :smokertransformer:

You know.. that might be the route i'll go as well..
Maybe option 2 for now until i update the shocks.
Might help me stay with in the travel limits of my current shocks.
I am definitely not an expert as well and learning as i go..
Got a lot of good information from this thread!

The most practical solution is probably limit straps. Since you’re doing mostly slow speed stuff, you probably will never even feel that you’re missing out

    Here’s a question for all....

By going to a softer/lighter leaf pack spring rate and reducing leaf lift height, would this also reduce and limit full droop numbers?
(Specific to the icon RXT leaf pack)

My logic of going for option 1 RXT leaf pack while my truck is still light is keeping the rear lift around 1.75” as opposed to option 2 that brings the lift up to 4” unloaded. Really curious if the droop numbers between option 1 and 2 differ....Does a pack that offers more lift equate to more droop? .... Any takers? o_O
This would really help answer one of my big questions at the moment of how to avoid topping out the Fox 2.5 at full droop. (Aside from using limit straps) Along with simply learning more.

Your build looks slick! What option are you running for the RXT leaf pack? How do you like the leaf pack with the Fox 2.5 on the back end? Any troubles with topping out the Fox shocks at full droop? Lots of questions. Lol:boink:

My guess is no on the droop question. Regardless of the configuration, the main leaf is a fixed length. The shackle is the same length. The rxt is pretty cool. You want the setting to match your hauling needs.

If the truck weight is fixed, the difference between setting 1 and 2 is going to be the sag height of the spring pack. Going to setting 2 puts in a stiffer leaf, thus counter acting the sag. Either way they can still drop down all the way if the truck were off the ground (which is effectively zero weight)

Limit straps are good for another reason. They are adjustable, so if you change up your shock you can adjust it longer

Ha! I ran the Fox 2.5” rear shocks for awhile, my conclusion, they are terrible. First, no limit straps needed. They are too short, stock shocks have just shy of 9” travel, with the added thickness of the RXT pack you have same, or more than likely less travel than stock. They ride like crap also. Lucky enough to wheel with a bunch of other Tundras, the Icon RXT springs paired with the Icon RXT bypasses(whatever they are called), is impressive. Way better than mine was.
