What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Went into my top secret storage and dug up these...

 

Trucks with tow package have the 7 pin. Non tow package had 4 pin.


I’m currently trying to get a factory 7 pin in... the rear harness is expensive though. 450 My cost, eek. Good news is the plug for a brake controller is in the truck. Don’t know what else I have get for factory 7 pin though

Once @Darkness pointed out my odometer is off I realized I'm actually getting close to 14.5 with 33's, not the 13 I had calculated. That's a bit more bearable. Best I ever got was 18.6 before moving to bigger tires.

We now have 3 members(that I know of) with Dirty Deeds injectors. Unless I'm mistaken, it sounds like any MPG increase was very minimal or non existent. Am I correct?

 

Very minimal at best.

 

It came factory with the 4 way and my dad had the hitch added when he bought it brand new. I just did the conversion to 7 way for our small travel trailer.

 

That's unfortunate. What about overall performance? Would you recommend these or say save the money for something else?

 

I concur.

The reason for me doing the injectors was experimental. The reman’d injectors were cheap $300 versus brand new $800.

The gear shift points have definitely changed a bit (holds gears a bit longer). Overall I’m still pleased, but anyone reading this shouldn’t do it for MPG.

I’m researching transmission valve bodies and how they can also adjust shift points. Some are designed to hold gears longer which would eliminate the ‘sluggish’ feel some report on the earlier 1st Gens which I believe is due to the shift points (early shifting into high gears).

Case in point: Try manually shifting on the stalk and see how well your truck performs in terms of torque and power. It becomes a different truck. Maybe a specific valve body could mimic?

 

I’d do it again. Its a one day job at most for $300 in injectors. The shifting profile has improved a bit.

If you are looking for ROI, then do not do it. Then again, any other mod is throw away money as well (no ROI).

I’m more into mechanical improvement over accessories additions, so it depends on your outlook.

 

Completely agree. For $300 and a few hours in the garage, I would definitely recommend these.

 

I did the same thing.

I’ve checked at full droop and I’ve got about 1/2 of clearance. I’ve had new CVs put in January and have done a few good wheeling trips. Have not had any problems nor marks on the boot where it’s closest to the bolt.

 

I’ve got one similar to that. I also added a rear camera on my roof rack. It’s held up great surprisingly for how cheap they were. It’s nice insurance for a wreck and makes some good footage Offroad without having to get out of the truck hahaha

I'm assuming this one is hardwired into your overhead console? Or does the cord run down and get plugged in?

 

Removed the passenger side rear seat and built a platform. For this first version I used whatever I already had around the garage. Seems pretty secure but Ill most likely alter the tie down points after some experience with it.

 

You putting a fridge on it?

Oh it's getting done end of Summer. Gonna take some measurements this week and order the new kit from Archive, flipping u bolts and adding superbumps in the process.

This way I still have 2 seats in the rear for the dogs and there’s plenty of room for cooling. I can also reach in from the drivers seat and the lid almost opens completely.

 

Would you expect anything less?! As long as the cover stays on.

 

I threw on a new Detroit Axle steering rack this weekend. It was actually a pretty easy job except I forgot to center it before installing!! I ended up being able to slide the splined sleeve up and pull the connection from the rack and center it up rather than having to remove the whole thing. Would have been an easy pace 4 hour job and turned into 6. Its at the alignment shop now and Ill post some pics when I get it back.

 

Best I’ve ever gotten (recently) was 18MPG doing highway miles 65mph average.

Maybe a few times she hit 20MPG brand new with the original small tires doing highway driving.

 

How do you like the rear cam being so high up? I wanted it lower but I think I'll have to mount it on the roof rack as well.

For now it's ran down the A pillar and plugged into one of the cigarette adapters. We might hardwire to overhead console once I know for sure I like it haha but we still have to wire the rear camera so we'll see how we do it.

 

My camera is mounted just under my tailgate handle and if anything it could be higher up. I had one of the license plate mounts before and I really like the higher view from the tailgate.

 

I gained about 1mpg

 

It definately isn't a huge improvement over any one thing in particular, I got +1mpg and it feels a little peppier when on the throttle. I think the injectors are a good upgrade and likely shine even more when coupled with a full exhaust, headers and maybe an intake. Obviously they'd be great for anyone supercharged.

 

Anything helps. Better fuel atomization makes a pretty big difference the more you spin the engine up. Aka more efficient at higher rpm.
