Over kill. If I ever used/needed a pod, I’d just slap my Milwaukee magnetic battery cube on the hood.

Right around 5k on them. They still look new. I guess $150 plus shipping?

Those look to be the ‘Off Road Package’ Coils indicated by the blue and yellow paint marks.

That would be correct. My truck has the off road package.

Side note / question... Reinstalling the lower shock bolt, I put the bolt head going forward. I couldn't get it back in coming from the rear because the CV was in the way. (didn't want to unbolt the 4 lower ball joint bolts as I was in a time crunch). The bolt now appears to come pretty close to the CV fins. Is this an issue or OK?? I don't remember having this issue wirh my 4runners that had almost the identical front suspension configuration.

Also... I drove it only around the block and it felt great. I always loved the way the Icons rode on road and offroad. Hopefully today I'll get the rear AAL on. Right now the front is at 23" from center of hub to fender. Rear is stock and at 22".

I am not a suspension expert, but have read guys on here (and other places) do as you did with the bolt reversal due to access limitations. You should be fine. Just keep an eye on it.

Seems those Icons really boost the front end up tremendously.

IIRC, my measurements were 22.5” and 23.5” respectively front and back with OEM OR Package. @Darkness made a thread were everyone stated their measurements. I’ll go double check.

Anybody know if the different trim levels all have the same stock leaf packs? As in SR5 vs Limited vs TRD

I see em on Craigslist every so often in Texas. I saw a 2 door 2nd gen 4R the other day. It needed some love but I didn't even know they made a 2 door 2nd gen. Must be rare.

    They are different.

Plug in your VIN at toyotapartsdeal.com and look at the different part#’s within each year of the 1st Gens.

Another site screen pic from a site I’d use if I needed new OE springs.

Good question. While I’ve done some research, I have little practical experience myself.

My friend, who does the same sorts of things I do in the same terrain (northern AZ and southern UT) just loves that combo, and I’ve come to trust his judgement.

The guy at Discount Tire was surprised, too, but when I explained he agreed it was a good choice.

I think there is something about the skinny tires being nicer to drive on pavement, maybe more of a “stock” ride quality, and when you air down they still get more contact surface area longitudinally.

Basically a friend I trust strongly endorsed, and the manager at Discount Tire was weirdly impressed, and I haven’t heard a good reason not to, so I’m giving it a try. Would love to hear more thoughts.

I’ve had both skinny and fat tires. They both are a cool ride. I prefer the fat(ter) but not too fat. Getting stuck is more of a driver problem. Tread design plays a large role in your terrain vs. the fat/skinny debate.

Funny how the Oz guy with the popular video discussing skinny tires are best has fatter tires than most people!

Thats all I have to say.

Yes, those are the rarest 4Runners for sure, they only made it 90-91...especially if you can find one with 4x4, 5sp and the 22R-E.

Installed the YI mirror dash cam and so far I like it. The mirror is much bigger than factory, a little easier to see out of and the picture quality is nice for an $85 camera. It also came with a rear view camera but we don't know where to install it yet.

Dude wide tires r the way to go.
I'm riding on 35x12.5 and it just looks so much better than littler skinnier tires

Lots of slop on passenger side CV axle going into coupling. Is that a needle bearing as well like the driver side ? Can a ECGS busing be used ?

I was happy to get 15 yesterday. I rarely see over 14 after the 33s. Used to get up to 19 stock. My tacos always gotta pretty poor mileage. I'd get like 260miles before the gas light came on. In my tundra I get 280 before the gas light comes on. Oh well.
