Level the front

    I’m wanting to just level the front of my 17 SR5 Crew 4x4. I’m thinking the Bilstein 5100’s are they way I want to go. I’m not looking to spend a ton of money. But I want to retain factory ride quality. I like the factory look of the truck but I don’t like my trucks to have a rake in the front. The last two trucks had spacer lifts. I ended up having to replace both wheel bearings after 100k and had alignment issues. So I’m a little gun shy of lifting/leveling this truck. I will most likely do the install myself so ease of install would be helpful.

    We just installed fat Bob garage 3" vated adjustable coilovers and once we figured out the drivers side, passenger side took 15min.

    Not sure how rusted your bolts are, but might suggest running through and lubing bolts first to make it easier. Jacked the truck up, took 4 bolts off the coil and spring, loosened the clip and took the retainer bolt off the brake line to give some slack. Removed the bolt from sway bar, jacked up the coil and shock, removed the bottom bolt and pull the shock/coil out. Now if you get the 5100, I'm guessing you will need a spring compressor to remove the spring from the OEM shock to put on the new 5100. Since I replaced with a coilover, I just slipped the new one in, tightened bolts and it was done. Start to finish with 3 people was maybe a little over an hour.

    Thanks. Yeah I didn’t think about having to compress the spring. I’d much rather replaces the strut and spring at one time so I’m not having to worry about losing my face to a compressed spring. I don’t want to have to pay for something I can do myself.

    I didn't add the diff drop because I actually only lifted the truck 1.5" and didn't see the need at this time unless I decided to adjust it higher. I actually was going to go the 5100 route, found a new set on eBay for under 200. Did research, read reviews, decided on the toytec coilovers. Did more research, found they had issues with ride heights and spring weight not toratios,decided pull the trigger. Found on the forums FBG vated coilovers were excellent, people love them, pulled the trigger. They are amazing, would highly recommend

    5100s are firmer than oem, but a higher quality ride if that makes sense

    5100's have been awesome for me. However, I paid to have them installed. After paying Toyota for the install and alignment it would have been a hell of a lot cheaper to just install assembled coilovers myself and probably could have got a higher end shock assembly... live and learn. Buy adjustable coilovers so you don't have to worry about shims. Its common for Tundras to lean to one side, although mine is dead nuts.

    I don’t want to mess with shims. That sounds like a pain. So getting a coil over assemble would probably be easier and better?
