2020 Updates

I would doubt it as Toyota, I believe, doesn't use anything of the sort in any other vehicle. I think we have a better shot at a V8 with hybrid assist...that to me sounds like Toyota. But who knows...

 

I wonder if that push start is something the 2018 and 2019’s have in the wiring harness already since there was major changes there. Would love a push button start

 

Or the already used twin turbo v6 hybrid from Lexus. It’s already in production and they have plenty of real world use. I’d like to see the 5.0 v8 from Lexus. Much more efficient than the 5.7 and still a v8

 

You must have a lift, bigger tires, etc, right? 13-14mpg on your Tundra? Jesus, that is horrible.

 

It’s usually 14. A good tank is 15. Bone stock. I don’t drive like a grandpa and never will. If I want good mpg’s I’ll go get a little car

 

Drive like grandpa? What does that even mean? Why people say stuff like that is beyond me. I just drive...like you are supposed to drive. I suppose because I obey the speed limits I "drive like grandpa?" Whatever, I guess. I am bone stock as well and I get around 19 overall consistently; often better. Seemed odd to me that yours was so poor in comparison.

 

It means I don’t drive 60-65 on the highway when the speed limits are 70-75 to squeak out a couple extra mpg’s. My highway speeds are 75-80. I don’t mash the gas in town either.

You must stay in the 55-60 mph range most often. If I did that I'd be around 18-19 myself, but I don't. 75-80 with a bunch of rabbit starts (4.5-5.5k with the dual exhaust is addicting ) and I'm down around 15 for an average. The Tundra is extremely sensitive to driving style, the Ford's I've driven long term aren't nearly as sensitive to driving style.

I was being sarcastic, I know what it means. It's a bullshit expression people use to justify driving like an asshole. I drive the speed limit and I achieve what I consider to be very good mpg in my Tundra. If you can't, fine, but don't try to justify your lack of ability by downing someone with a snarky expression.

 

Not necessarily true. Much of my daily commute is 65 or 70, depending on the section of hwy that I am on. I guess I don't understand why those who don't achieve decent gas mileage in the Tundra get so mad at those of us who can. There is no reason for it. Jesus.

 

My work truck is a '19 Suburban and has the deactivation down to a 4 cylinder, my partner got 29 MPG coming back to STL from KCM a month or so back but our old '08 used about a quart of oil every 1k miles.

Actually, driving over the speed limit is illegal and dangerous...especially on the highway. A disregard for the safety of others on the road is indeed asshole behavior.

No, using the expression was an attempt by you to infer that I "drive like a grandpa" because I get better gas mileage than you do. It was a weak attempt to try and insult me. You know exactly what you meant. Own it and move on.

How much highway vs city driving?

 

Driving five over the speed limit is not going to do anything even the cops say that is safer due to the flow of the traffic her in KC. Now driving over 10mph over the speed limit yes that is a problem.

 

I saw this coming to be honest the dealer I bought my truck from always had problems selling the 4.6 trucks.

 

That's correct, driving slower than the flow of traffic is far more dangerous than driving slightly faster than the flow of traffic.

 

Go pro (or record) an entire video of your dash. Full tank to empty and prove the 19mpg. I will paypal you 3 tanks worth of gas. On me, no bullshit.

Anyone can manipulate the MPG calculator to show what numbers they want.

You really want to put that challenge up? Those with speed limits in the 50-55 range can do it. My area the limits are 70ish (110 km/h on the divided highways) and I can get 16 mpg unless it's a decent headwind. Get a nice tailwind and I've gotten 26 mpg for 250 miles. And these numbers are with pump numbers, not the trucks computer.

 

55-60, behind a semi, the entire tank. Maybe. No one consistently will achieve 19 mpg in a tundra unless it's cherry picked stats like mentioned by me and you.. Going downhill and blah blah doesn't count.

I'm talking about daily use. Going home, pulling in and out of the driveway. Stopping at the store or wherever for errands. Getting stopped at traffic lights. 19MPG is not happening... I'm also speaking 5.7 FYI.
