Thanks for this I was aware of the data breach but was not aware of the claim you could file. Since I already have credit monitoring I will also accept that $125.

Correct. I also had checked when the breach first happened and signed up for the monitoring back then.

So, you give all your data to some random site about a data breach?

Well the fact that the website isn't owned or operated by Equifax did help inspire confidence. It's run by an entity involved in the beach settlement and the data you provide is name, address, phone and email. Nothing exactly private nowadays.

Not random... they are the registered settlement agent for the lawsuit disbursement.

Thanks @TRDFerguson for the heads-up. I had no idea my info was compromised until I checked.

So to help everyone out, here are the 3 options for filing a claim. You won't get the "up to $125" unless you had a monitoring service.

I’m going to take my time and see how much money I’ve spent to date on monitoring, money spent on freezing of credit and time spent dealing with it all. I will itemize and file a claim at the appropriate time. To me, 125 dollars for coughing up all my personal information is a slap in the face.

Completely agree. But I honestly just assumed I was never going to see a dime from this, so better than nothing in my eyes. Plus I've already had my data mishandled so many other times I'm more or less desensitized to the whole thing. The OPM catastrophe a few years ago was way worse for me, but hey, they gave me free credit monitoring for that...:anonymous:

Personally, I like the girl that dressed up as the Monopoly Man at the hearing. This entire thing was a disaster. Congress held meetings to display faux outrage and then did nothing about it. A company can lose sensitive info of nearly 100M Americans, wait to tell everyone and then try to cover it up an nothing happens. Meanwhile you've got people serving life sentences for weed. It's amazing what money can buy.

I wish Equifax would get Equi-f****d.

I'm not content with the $125 so I'm going to go after them for 10 hours since I spent a ton of time freezing my credit when this happened.

I didn't spend a dime on that. My company offers free 3 bureau credit monitoring for all the employees. It's one of our perks. I was affected, but nothing happened because of the credit monitoring. About 3/4 of the people in my office were affected. The $125 is enough for me. As others have said, many companies have given breach victims NOTHING, not even a 5% discount on goods/services.

If you have spent time and money recovering from the data breach, you deserve every bit of compensation you're entitled to. Leave the lube on the table and glue some 80 grit to a baseball bat.

Not when you’re out more than that. I refuse to accept that in return for my information permanently on the black market. These class action lawsuits are just sad IMO. But, you’re right. It’s better than nothing.

I got the 10 year monitoring service for the wife that comes with the $1 mil identity theft protection. $125 is nothing when your identity get stolen

My wife did the same and I agree that if you have no monitoring already that you should get the services they are offering over the $125. I am surprised my wife didn't have it and thought she did like me.
